Dave, a grill conversion sounds very interesting - it seems it would have the potential of improving the heat dissipation from the stock muffler heat shields quite a bit. Any pictures of the progress and do you see this as something you will offer as an upgrade?
I have always liked the 348 rear light setup and was thinking of changing my 355 over to 348 tail light setup do they make a conversion kit for that?
If I had a 348 I would change over to the round taillight conversion. IMO the cars look so much better with the round tailights.
I've heard a rumor that Husker is working on a setup at this moment - same great quality as this one, loosely based around a pinstriping kit.
Like I stated earlier, I have been such a purist over the years I have never played in this arena, but this is really quite fun. I have been doing carbon and S-Glass heat shields and such for the race cars but these work so well that using them on the street cars with a good gloss clear coat has been recieved quite well. Finding the clear coat that would take the heat of the race cars was a challange to say the least. Getting rid of any extra engine bay heat is an advantage in every way, so the Challange grill material is a plus. I have liked the look since I was first installing them on new 355's durning PPI's. We started (Tim and myself) this project thinking of just using the steel panel but decided that we would use that as a mule piece and get the fit / finish perfect with that and then use it as a model for a buck. With an Oak buck and full sheets of material we are then going to make the Challange grills seamless as the tacked on ends are the eye bleeder of the whole project with the mess grill. The other advantage is the new heat shields in aluminized S-Glass then show through the grill and I think will look pretty sharp. The OE heat shields have always "looked" like an after thought in my opinion but do work pretty well. I will post some photos as Tim gets the mule piece worked around and we design the tail light mounts. One of my requirements is that nothing on the car gets modified, this has to be a simple bolt on or I am not interested. I have been proding Tim to register on the site and start giving some feed back on body related issues as he is a true pro with a knowledge of Ferrari. To watch him cut up a 348 race car and make it "useable and serviceable" from a mechanics perspective is really impressive! We are currently working on a 348TB SS that is getting a removeable rear end and firewall, welded sub frame, full cage, engine bay X bracing, front trunk mounted oil cooler and cell with ducting in the front hood........... If its fun and functional and looks good, we are doing it, then we will let the owner give feed back on the color (same gentleman that owns the "American Flag" IMSA 348 we put back together). Pumping new life into an old car........ To answer the question, yes, we will do it as an upgrade if it turns out to our satisfaction regarding fit, finish and quality. If it bolts on to 2 cars and fits both we should be able to offer it as a painted bolt on piece ready to install. Dave
you know i went full steam at making a 355 light treatment, i purchased the 355 tin and 360 lights . made the rough mold. but then i fell in love with my original 348ss lights. go figure.
The 348 -> 355 tail light conversion is found in the FerrariAds.com section http://www.ferrarichat.com/ferrariad...&cat=13&page=1
