man, you've lost the plot :

    MotoGP Mugello - ** SPOILER **

    reading 101

racing is racing but this was to me about who has accomplished more and from that perspective Rossi is more impressive even though the Schu dragged Ferrari back to the top .... it took him years to do it but Rossi did it the very same year he switched on a bike that was a POS

plus Rossi is a pleasure to watch , Schumacher is an embarrassment and I like him !

Personally I would call them equal, they are both my favourite racers in their respective field, I also think they have done a lot for their sport, although I would have to give the edge to Rossi for pure entertainment and edge of the seat viewing especially with this weekends Mugello race, i'm glad to see both Schuey and Rossi back on form

Rossi has dominated MotoGP less so than Schumi has dominated F1, but in a completely different way. He also did it in less competitive automobiles.

However I must say Schumacher has done so much more for F1 than Rossi has for motorcycle racing. As mentioned here, he's completely changed the way it's been done, and in a positive way. Not only that, but the reasons he could dominate because of his successful cars were because he helped assemble the teams that built these cars!

So he's 27, he's won 5 world championships at the top level (500cc/MotoGP) including changing from Honda to Yamaha, winning again with Yamaha 1st year and he's won 2 more world championships with 125cc and 250cc. Sounds pretty impressive to me. I don't think MS is even in the same league, quite frankly.

I voted for Rossi. I do not know how anyone could not vote for Rossi
after watching a Moto GP race where he is doing battle with other
riders. I am a big shumi fan, but F1 seems "too safe" compared to MotoGP.

This is totally unbelievable. Why are mods getting uppity about another man's question/poll? You seriously care whether or not the racing section a motorcycle discussions? Also, did his poll not include an F1 driver, hence making it somewhat pertinent to an F1 racing discussion?

And, those who claim to not understand the poll are clearly thinking too hard. He asked who impressed you more; obviously thinking you'd catch on and realize he meant who impressed you more with the mastery of their respective sports. Obviously he was wrong in his assumptions...

Sorry Dan, this wole thread went to hell. I voted Rossi, by the way. He seems to actually toy with other riders.

well, actually, F1 is far more complicated than moto gp. plus, there are more laps too. tyres, aero, engine reliability, brake bias, fuel mixers, traction control, bla bla.... don;t get me wrong, i do think motogp is more tougher than F1, but not as complicated. come to think about it, how many drivers out there can provide a proper feedback to the team about the car none other than MS himself?

Then it's Rossi to be honest. To be that dominant that quickly and at his young age, you can't help but be impressed. MS was dirty at the beggining and in a lot of ways did have much quality comp. Rossi beat all there was to beat.

actually I think MOST of them can or they wouldn't be there, and I would say Luca Badoer does a lot of MS donkey work and he doesn't even get to race !!

Schumacher is good but nowhere near as impressive as Rossi - wished my resume' was that good at 27

can't believe the mods would be involved in such a simple poll, this is all getting very silly, nexxt their will be a mod squad debate on chucking out people who spell badly  (that'll be most people banished :D)

you'd better check the daily reports from the F1 sites, Mike is out there testing now, always has done .... ALL the drivers give good feedback, that is part of their job if they want the car to go faster

i agree. true what ur sayin. but dun misunderstand me. what i'm trying to say is, MS is one of the most dedicated driver out there. i read in various places, saying that after tests, MS sits for hours with engineers to analyze data, feedback, verify problems, etc.

I asked the question before ... there seems to be a few bike nuts here based on the number of votes for keeping bikes in the racing topic. Where is Art when you need him?

So how does Rossi compare to Hailwood, Surtees, Agostini, Doohan, Schwantz (sp?) and Rainey. Or any one else you care to mention.

I am not a MotoGP regular so I don't know. Its obvious that Rossi is the best of the current generation but how does he compare to past greats???

The fact that Rossi has had several F1 test drives with FERRARI, plus rumor after rumor of him making the switch to open wheel RACING - possibly joining the FERRARI F1 RACING team.......Hmmm let's see.....I'm still not sure this is an appropriate subject for RACING on a FERRARI site.....hold on, still thinkin'.......let me ask my wife.....my kids.......my Nascar nieghbor - naw he's on smash-um_and_pass-um.com arguing with someone about Montoya and Gordon (something about not discussing Montoya on a Nascar site?) ......Wait! Let me ask my dog. How about it pooch?....Hmmmm Rosi-Ferrari....Rossi-Ferrari Hey! I think we have an honest to gosh topic of discussion! My dog says it's OK! Have at it guys! Glad we got THAT cleared up!

I think a little more information in the original post would have solved a lot of the drama ... heck I'll start a thread one day like 'Do you like red?' ... I mean that relates to racing, as Ferrari race cars are usually red :D :D

Anyway back to the poll and the relative merits of each person.

Someone mentioned that Rossi has done more to win very quickly on a not so good motorcycle (ie. the Yamaha) and thus this is more impressive than MS. Well they need to learn more about M/C racing. M/C racing is like 75% rider, as long as the there is a reasonable motor and good tyres the rider glues it all together. Also ALL Rossi's team moved from Honda to Yamaha and started making parts asap.

Now there is a parallel with MS, as all the key members of MS's winning team moved with him too ... but you think how much harder it is to move a huge team like Ferrari in the right direction compared to the relatively small team like Yamaha.

Also like MS, Rossi won in another team first and then took the challenge to win on another team ... this shows they like to compete, not just win.

In the end though, while both racers lean on other competitors, yep I've watched Rossi carve up the other rider and leave him no where else to go also ... MS simply takes this way to far and is a cheater.

Thus whatever respect I had and still have for the man as a driver (note I am not even remotely discussing him personally, cause I do not know him), I have miniscule respect for him as a racer ... and thus Rossi has my vote, and I'm hoping MS's retires before he embarrasses himself and his family further.

    Pete
