308 Plug wire extendors, resistance or not

I posted this in the 308 section but I probably should have put it here.

1977 308GTB w/ points still active.

I know their are two types but which should the early carb cars have?

I pulled the plugs out of my car last night to check them after my carb. rebuild. I noticed that I have two different types of plug extentions. One set has almost no resistance (and a continuity tone) the other set has lots of resistance (20K) and no continuity tone on the volt/ohm meter.

Which one am I supposed to have?

 

on the outside body...there are two types; black and red...(black is for the 2V cars I think..red for 4v and 328...not 100% sure though)

 

A cheap meter may read the resistance plugs as "open" i.e. no continuity.

If your engine is your music, get the racing wires (solid copper I believe). If you want to hear the radio, use those 'carbonized textile & fiberglas conductors', with silicone rubber jacket (resistance plugs). I assume your owners manual will tell you what the car was actually designed for I would would bet the farm is the resistance kind.

What I've found from F_UK site is that red is 2v and black is 4v. I suppose since a few of them are cracked I should just order some new ones. I just wanted to know if they should have resistance or not.

 

Check that..my original 2Vs are all black, bro.....bring your meter over here!

 

Yup, my 78 308GTS had black too...and when I replaced the with new ones from T.Rutlands, they sent me black...but not sure if they had resistance or not...never checked. But I DID have radio interference...and switching to resistor NGK plugs corrected that.

 

The red have internal resistors. I dissected one that had a bad arc-thru a few years back & posted it to the old fchat. It's still there somewhere.

Mine measured open with an ohmmeter, but work fine. If I remember right, the internal resistor measured ~2K Ohms after the dissection.

 

Well I ordered some from Dennis McCann, PN 116613 according to Ferrari.oweners web site. They are red.

They should be here in a few days and when I get them I'll check and post it for future reference. New plugs and wires will be installed as well.

 

curious about price for set of 8..what plugs you gonna run with..

 

$8 each. NKG BP6ES gapped to .035". Accel 4040R wires per this thread for new wires http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39303

I'm also going to go to a local guy FCA here who has a dwell meter and knows how to set the points for me. He said to "bring it over" at the last meeting and he'd help me so I am. I have no idea when the last time they were checked.

I know the timing is correct however, but we'll check that too.
