You must feel like the bad guy in an action movie having such large displays. It's always the evil corporate CEO who has the really cool A/V setup. :D

Oh that's neat. I'd love to see your setup (I'm in Sg too). :)

Also, nice to see another Enterprise fan. So many Trekkies dismiss this series out of hand.

I was thinking of going with a VM solution, but my experience with VMWare tells me "virtual machines on a laptop = bad idea" due to the fact that its so resource-intensive. On the MacBook with 2 gigs of ram though, do you think the delay would be that significant? Have you used VMWare? How does Parrallels stack up ?

No games for me... just the basics...

    Thanks.

Is there a variant of Cedega for the Mac ?

Maybe you could give it a whirl with the free version of Wine, I'm sure there's a port for BSD you could compile on the Mac.

I havent used VMWare. I have 2gbs of ram in my MBP (1.83 ghz model) and parallels runs fine with very little delay. If you have ever controlled a computer over a LAN with VNC/remote desktop, parallels has a far quicker response than that. You only have to worry if you are running on battery power because parallels will devour it very quick.

Yeah, VMWare's much faster than VNC/RDP, too. I'll give Parallels a shot - thanks!

I always hated them as well. I bought an ipod at the beginning of last year. I loved the interface of the ipod so much and was growing tired of all the adaware and trojans I was always battling that I bought a mac mini in october to give it a try. I loved OSX so last month I bought a 20" iMac Core Duo. I figured I would eventually be able to run windows but wasn't really expecting boot camp to come along. Now I can race with r-factor on the imac with XP.

I have to put my second gig of RAM in here. 1 gig, running a bunch of programs and Parallels with 256 megs is far too slow. Parallels is a good program though -- almost identical to VMWare.

I just started using macs in march (when I stated working for apple) and their stuff is really quite interesting. The learning curve has been fairly quick and I'm quite proficient now. My next computer will most likely be a mac.

    FWIW,

My filesystem became so corrupt on Sunday that the computer wouldn't boot, I couldn't retrieve any data (after using multiple recovery tools for about 10 hours worth of scanning), and I had to wipe the drive and start over.

Be careful with the Intel Macs... the non-Universal programs can be pretty volatile.
