does anyone happen to know if the 18" 360 magnesium wheels used on the challenge cars are forged magnesium or cast, etc? I'm thinking about running a set on the street, but worried about the possibility of them not standing up to bumps, etc.

Anyone have any comments? I know a number of ferrarichat members have these rims on their cars. Ferrari says not to run them on the street I believe, but are they just being overly cautious or what?

I have a set of them and use them for street use. No problems so far.
I believe they are just cast. Ferrari is not saying to not use them on the streets, its BBS. There is a BBS sticker on every wheel saying that the wheels are not been approved by TUV (German Car Inspection LAW) for street use.

Yeah, I think it's kind of over blown as well. How many miles do you have on your set? Ever hit a nasty pot hole at 75+ ? :) If so, any damage?

Once I hit a 5 inch deep edge where they were doing construction (the idiots left it exposed on an off ramp). It bent the heck out of a forged aluminum rim and even the steel lip. So you just never know.

I suspect the challenge rims are actually pretty sturdy. I really doubt Ferrari is going to send their super rich customers out onto the track with rims that run the risk of breaking apart in the corners due to rough use. It seems to me that any rim can be damaged if you try hard enough. Okay, magnesium might be softer, I might have to watch the pitting more, etc. I get that and I'm okay with it. I'll try not to hit anything at 100+ :)

I just want to make sure no body else has had any major problems with these rims on the street or noticed all the spokes showing cracks after 15K miles of driving around town, etc :)

All comments welcome - especially horror stories where your 360 went flying off the road after your "not for street use" BBS challenge wheels exploded :)
