Never had them and never will but check out what happened to this guy when he tried to cancel his AOL service. He was on the Today show this morning and said that he taped the conversation because he heard how bad it was to cancel your AOL service.

    http://media.putfile.com/AOL-Cancellation

He said that he had to go through 4 minutes of push this button to talk to this department then 11 minutes of hold before he came up to this guy.

His last name alone should get him some cred around here. :)

Unbelievable. I had to deal with something like that yesterday but not as bad. Some credit card report thing had charged my credit card and the lady did the same thing "...you've already paid so why not get full benefits etc etc". I just said i had never approved the charge and i've disputed it and if theres a charge next month i will be very upset (dunno why i said upset, i meant to say angry). She then got the idea and cancelled it.

Just think how angry they must make some people. This guy stayed semi-calm

I freakin hate AOL when i had to cancel it, i was in the same situation as that guy...

I was with them for 5 years and then decided to cancel, they kept on giving me extra months extra months and i was like what hell, so i got 2 years free with them....then just told them afterwards i am DONE.

Haha...so i guess it wasnt bad trying to cancel...but dont go with AOL...

Cancelled AOL a couple months ago with the same problem. After 20 mins of on hold I get a guy who finally cancels my membership after I insist I don't want anything from them any longer. He gives me a reference number for the cancellation and assures me I will not see any charges from that day forward. Low and behold the next month there is a charge from AOL to my account! Another 20 mins on hold with AOL to get that fixed and argue some more about my leaving. Just cancel me, dammit! I got smart and told my credit card company to deny any charges from them in the future.

I can't understand why to this day people still use them, you would think the public would get a clue by now.

Don't mean to offend but I always thought AOL was a load of crap. I hated their little stupid browser, the whole thing was a browser of cluttered mess, with pop ups and buttons everwhere; people call it user friendly but we all know what AOL is trying to do. There's so many other ISP's out there that are a million times better and I remember the primitive Netzero being one of them.

My take on AOL is that it is like having training wheels on a bicycle ... it's great for someone just learning about e-mailing and browsing, but unfortunately, most browsing is within the AOL World.

    AOL is for ROOKIES.

And working (administering) on family or friends computers with AOL is HELL! It just latches onto the System, just like your credit card. It consumes so many resources on computer system.

My Aunt tried to cancel her AOL account 3 months ago and she also had the same experience with Customer Service; she ended up getting AOL Dialup for a couple of dollars a month. At the end of this year, she is going with her cable provider.

Such is life ... Come on people, take off those training wheels!

I ran into a similar problem with them when I canceled 4 years ago. They offered me a free year of service if I kept them I told the guy I didn't even want their service for free that I would rather pay $40 a month for Bellsouth so that should tell him my opinion of their lack of service.

I got the worse run around from my old Insurance company. I called them on 3 occasions and each time they assured me the account was canceled. The only reason I found out it still wasn't was 4 months later when I get another bill!
