Constructive Criticism and Area for Improvement for NY Region Moderator Ghost

the poll that was started a long time ago asking nyts fchat members to rate ghost's moderating abilties summed up the entire game.
if you are new to it, please search the boards.
the results out of the entire fchat community showed that vik isnt doing a good job as a unbiased moderator

if a moderator is doing a great job, i do not think he or she would be scoring 50%+ disapproval rating

 

OK, so I took a look, #897 is a sighting. A couple of posts later you come out with comment and the following exchange takes place:

I have very little idea what the prior history is here. I do know there is some stuff going on between ghost and the EC. However, your post specifically points to the above sequence as the cause of your creating this thread, so I'm going to ignore the history and examine the cause stated.

As far as I can tell, you took the opportunity created by post #897 & 898 to diss "someone" who is a moderator on Fchat.

Ghost came back and said he thought your comment was in poor taste and that if you had a problem with "someone" to call them rather than be vague and insinuating in an internet post. He never said call him.

You then come back with direct attacks against ghost, including a criticism for him having assumed you were talking about him. In fact he never said it was him, he said call whoever you have a problem with; you jumped to the conclusion and responded in that context.

So far, I read this sequence as highly presumptious and negative by you. Are you willing to take some constructive criticism yourself then?

As someone who is completely from the other side, I will say in my varied experiences with John (p-chop) I have been frankly surprised to see what a selfless and genuine person he is. So much so that his honesty and integrity has oftentimes precluded him from taking financial gain or benefitting at the expense of others.

I have also found him to be a very impartial judge of qualities, someone who stands for what he believes, but will wholly accept and consider positions directly polar to his own. It's because of this that I have come to respect his opinion so much.

If someone like John feels that there is room for constructive criticism or that there are issues in action, it's worth stepping back from the usual he-said, she-said and light-hearted but unrelated posts and take into consideration what he is offering. After all, John does not get personal benefit from sticking his neck out and bringing this to a head. Nor does it win him any popularity points. So why then would he do it? In my mind - to help better the NYTS and greater FC community as a whole.

I said I wasn't going back into history. pchop pointed specifically to the cited thread as his justification. As it stands, that thread does not appear to be sufficient justification.

Yin, I know you to be a very impartial and fair arbiter of opinion - I suggest that you familiarize yourself with some of the history and context if you have the time. Admittedly there is a great deal, but even a perusal should give you some sense of what's going on - and a basis on which to form a more conclusive opinion.

Once upon a time, you were friends with many old timers here, you were liked and respected by others before you were a moderator, remember?

By saying old timers, I do not mean just the ones you considered trouble makers, but also the older mature crowd that you respected.
Where are most of them now? They chose to no longer participate this form, because they do not agree with your moderating style.

Why??
You either must admit that you are really doing something wrong here, or must admit woodear/EC is influential enough to turn your friends against you.
Either way, it must kill you.

It must kill me?!? Not at all. The friends who I was closest to from that group I still am, in fact stronger then ever. People that I drive with. People that I meet weekly for lunches and dinners. Who drive 6 hours in the middle of the night at moment's notice. Who offer guidance on life's matters in general. And who ask for my advice.

If anything, this experience has beautifully illustrated to me those who were "good weather" friends - the type that would happily pile on to a run or event that I organized, versus those that genuinely value my friendship and will continue to be life-long friends.

Not at all. My friends contradict and challenge me all the time. Why misinterpret on purpose?

Let's be accurate: the support is NOT 30%, it's greater (says so right on the second line) and your characterization of who voted for which has to be pure speculation since the poll is anonymous. Just pointing out propaganda for what it is.

I'm not here to be an arbiter, I just happened by, saw a specific claim made, examined it and it didn't hold up in my mind.

 

Please allow 2 cents. I would like to ask the board if at any time anybody on this board has ever had a problem with me? Am I known as a troublemaker? (Pchop wouldnt mind if you jumpped in here, because you will remember what I'm talking about) Awhile back I made a statement on here that I thought everyone on here understood. The thread was about "riced out cars" I said I hated them. Ghost didnt see it that way and banned me for 3 days. Later on after the ban I made it clear I have no hatred for Asian food or people and I made am open apology to any members of Asian descent. I was told by some members that no apology was needed and it was understood what I was talking about. My only dislike was for 4 door cars with no performance being dressed up with silly carbon fiber wings and such. But our Mod once again banned one of us because as far as I can see disagreed with my opinion.

 

Greg, you keep bringing this incident up so you're obviously still worked up about it close to a year after it happened. I was looking back over the threads in question and I thought things were made pretty clear back then as the reasoning behind the actions, but I'd be happy to reiterate what I said then.

There was a lot of talk at the time that there was a lack of consistency in moderation and how rules were not being applied fairly across the board - I might add this is something you yourself brought up as a concern. You purposely provoked on a topic that others had deemed sensitive. While you may have done it in jest, it was a poorly timed joke. You were banned - along with W00dEar - and asked to cool off for a bit. When you returned, you provided a very thoughtful apology, which some deemed was not necessary, but I thought was very genuine of you. Here is what I wrote in response:

I noted then, and repeat to you now, that this was not a personal action or having anything to do with what your opinions were, but rather an attempt to maintain consistency in how we moderate. I'm sure you'll bring this example up again, but I ask that you keep the context and honesty of intent in mind the next time you rush to criticise the moderation.

 

took my lowly M3 out for a run with PChop's 430 and some CSs and 360s. Li doesn't discriminate!!!

 

my two cents - I'm too lazy to go back and find the posts but my only criticism is at the Ferrari-hating that was going on when Vik was buying the Gallardo. It's a fantastic car but no reason to drop bombs on Ferrari's current line of V8 and V12 models. They all are great cars, different flavors like ketchup v. mustard, but there is never a time to say one is better than the other and/or put down Ferrari. If it's important enough to you for me to go back and find the threads I can, I just feel as a Mod you gotta be unbiased, and in all fairness probably a little quieter in your opinions that most since you are here to judge. You are more than allowed to hold you opinion, just never use that power to censor, ban, or influence the masses of regular, non-Mod contributers on this board. **** this ****
