Best possible result. Glad to see Alonso down in 5th even if it did cost me points in my F1 Tipping! Just one question: WTF was Alonso doing on the warmup lap? Looked to me like he was deliberately holding up the rest of the field to force Schumacher to sit on the line for as long as possible, losing tire temperature and overheating his engine. Boo.
Durned US traffic jams! I was wondering if we'd have a six car race again towards the end. Now how will FIA take Liuzzi's point away from the "for show" V10s? Suspicious Curmdugeon Mode On: Ferrari's wins have been at Ferrari's home track (Imola), at Schumi's home track (Nurburgring), and Ferrari's important market (US). A week after getting beat at the European GP, Alonso sails to an easy win at his home GP in Spain. A week after getting beat in Canada, Ferrari sails to an easy win in the US. Any bets on Renault winning at Mangy Corpse, Ferrari taking Monza, and Suzuka being between Trulli, Barachello, or Sato? Bernie has always been pushing the "entertainment value" for WWF1. Is that eau de rodent I sniff? (Two Noids are better than one.)
That's an intersting point you make, but I dunno if he would stoop that low as to fix the race results...at least I hope not. Overall a great day for Ferrari, No one could keep up with them. I was pretty disapointed in the first lap crash I wanted to see Kimi challenge but I guess that wasn't going to happen. Too bad SS couldn't finish in front of the home crowd, Luizzi proved that he might have been able to make some points. (but I guess if the big pile up hadn't happened probably not anyways so it's a mute point)
I was impressed with Liuzzi: he gave Coulthard all he could handle. I was also impressed with the coverage. When the race was for 8-9-10 we actualy got to see it Well done.
Its great to see the exuberance of MS and Ferrari. Michaels joy is contagious. I hope the season finishs tightly fought.
I believe its was Kimis fault for the 1st lap pile up. On the replay it looked like he get squirlly at the corner, lifted slightly to correct , and was hit from behind. At JPMs interveiw, however Juan said it was just a normal racing incident. Which surly means he was guilty of something or else he would have been bashing someone else. I dont know whos worse, him or Sato
Thought I'd toss up a relevant shot from this afternoon.. It's a quick crop, but it relays the emotion.. And I think I have a sleeping Tommy Cosgrove sitting beside me.. All the Ferrari celebrations must have worn him out.. Todd Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nine cars at the end, so a little better than last year! Lot's better actually, 'cuz they were all out there trying to win! Great result, guys..... SPEED cornering Bernie for a few querys was hilarious!
LOL! I couldn't believe that only 9 of 22 finished. Great race by Ferrari, they dominated the entire weekend, they deserved it. We finally have some hope that this CC and DC will not go away without a fight!
Too bad Massa had to back off for Schumi. He looked like he could have had the win if need be. It did seem a little strange that FA and Renault were not more competitive. On to the next race. Go F!
great news Ferrari and Fisi. I always thought that Fisi was better driver than alonso and today he prooved it. this usgp could of been lot more interesting if montoya didn't mess up and taking out kimi and other cars. Kimi has some bad lucks, if it is not the car than it is always someone else taking him out of the race. i personally thoguht that montoya made f1 interesting but now i can see someone really getting hurt because of his mistakes. BYE BYE MONTOYA, i don't think mclaren is going to need your service next year. MONTOYA WTF are you doing? this is not a nascar you can't just bump into cars!!! YOU KILLED THE RACE!!!
Errr what? So the other eleventy billion races where Fisichella embarassed himself with his extreme slowness compared to Alonso are all forgotten in favor of one time when he beats Alonso? Something was wrong with Alonso's car - hell, TRULLI was gaining on him - what does that say? Alonso is 100 times the driver Fisi will ever be IMO. ...and congrats to Michael on another stunning performance. He still is the master.
Great race!!!!!!!!! Massa did exceptional today ........ Wonder if he will stay with Ferrari next year???? (He's only on a year contract with ferrari but that could change depending on MS).....
I thought the race was a half a loaf. It was very exciting at the start, and it was great to see the whole compliment of cars lined up and letting it rip. The race lost a lot when the entire middle of the pack crashed out. Esp with guys like Kimi, Juan Pablo, Speed, Heidfeld out. l felt like it should have been a restart with backup cars for us to get our money's worth. It is good for F1 to have Michael returning to Europe triumphant, even if he did disappoint in Montreal. Very solid performance by Ferrari. I wonder if Michelin didn't go overly conservative on the tires, just to make sure they finished without mishap. One blowout on Turn 13 and then we would have had a real fiasco...can you imagine if they all pulled out midway thru the race? I was surprised at the number of fans, although I don't think 100 thousand is all that impressive for this track. FORZA FERRARI
Well, that was a GREAT race. The place where I was sitting (turn 1) was packed. I met Ralf at the mall and got about 1 foot away from Flavio at the Conrad. Actually, a lot more fans showed up than I expected. Here are the pictures from Saturday and Sunday...(Flavio is the one getting in the Nissan Murano, and sorry about all the through-the-fence pics) http://web.mac.com/macho_nacho/iWeb/My%20Site/USGP%202006.html
I thought the same thing. Restarts used to happen a few times a year in F1 (I could be wrong but it seemed like restarts were not entirely rare). I always got a kick out of watching the drivers run back to the pits to get into a backup car that is never set up or is set up for the other driver. It was exciting. Does anyone know what the rules are regarding restarts? Are restarts determined by the number of cars put out of a race during the first lap?
