    Hello Gentlemen,

Will I need to remove the dipstick to R/R the cam belts. Also, anyone with any tips on R/R-ing the A/C unit would greatly be appreciated, kind of step by step......

    Thanks you very much.

    Chris.

If it's a 308, there's no need to remove the dipstick tube(Ithink that's what you meant).

No need to completely remove the A/C compressor.

Don't loosen the hoses, so you won't lose freon. Remove the belt and the 4 bolts that mount the compressor. Take note of the spacers that will be under the mounting bracket.

Move the compressor out of the way with the hoses still attached.

    You're good to go!

Chris on my 77 I had to remove the dipstick bolt to get of the cam cover. The ac compressor can be unbolted and carefully twisted around and lowered to gain access. The system does not need to be evacuated. I believe if you run a search someone has posted photos of the whole procedure. All in all its not that hard to do if you are patient.

If u're going to remove the ac pump then make it easy on yourself & remove hood/bonnet/engine cover 1st. If u're going to remove cam covers be ready for sticker shock on seals & gaskets.

Sorry I meant cover as opposed to the actual cam covers.

I was able to swing the AC compressor up and over into the wheel arch, but I had to remove two of the threaded lugs that the large AC mounting bracket attaches too on the cam cover. You cannot get the cam cover out w/o removing or swinging the AC compressor out of the way.
