what would ferrari's new transmission be considerd, a manual or a automatic?. It doesn't have a clutch so i dont think it would be a manual, and it has paddle shifters so i dont think it would be a automatic. But there are articles that says it shifts and clutches automatically. so would this be considered a automatic, or manual??
    --thanks everyone, kevin

It's an automated manual. There's a clutch, you just don't manually control it.

Is this not referred to as a sequential manual transmission?

If it were a BMW, it would be a "sequential manual gearbox" (SMG).
Maserati calls it "Cambriocorsa" (race shifter)
    Ferrari calls it F1
Audi calls it ... (I forget).

But computer operated sequential gear change would be a good technical description.

    Or "shift by wire". ;)

Do you have some publications on the description? By what you said, it sounds like CVT/IVT. Zeroshift is something different...

I could be wrong but if my memory serves me correct I remember ferrari was creating the 408 in the late 80's. This was to have 4 wheel drive on a all aluminum chasis. First in the industry.
I don't know why but when I started reading this thread that car came to mind.
