I'm amazed at how many "Canadians" and "Americans" cheered for "their" national soccer team back in "old Europe" or other parts of the "old World" (include me in that bunch What does this mean? Does it mean that most of us Canadians/Americans have an identity crisis because they are citizens of the "new World"? That our heritage is stronger than our allegiance to a new flag? Even on July 1st, I have seen dozens of flags of any nationality (and even quite a few Quebec flags, for whatever reason...) and only very few Maple Leaf flags to celebrate our National holiday At any rate: I really hope that France will win. That would make "my" team (Switzerland) the 2nd best team in the world (at least mathematically, anyway), because France has not beaten the Swiss in several matches in recent years... I don't think you can say that until Canada get a team in the World Cup. I'm Canadian by birth, but from Scottish/English parents, so I rooted for England. Had Canada been playing, no question, I would have rooted for Canada. When you have a Canada-Italy match, or Canada-Germany, then you'll find out who the loyal Canadians are. Neil
I was born and lived many years in England so of course I cheer for the motherland (they did have a Canadian, does that count?...lol) but I think people in general will cheer for whatever the better team is. How many people cheered for the Italian, German or English hockey teams during the Olympics or World Championships?
