Thought I might ask this seemingly rather silly question, have noticed that in the past i.e. 60-70's all Ferrari works race cars were entered as SEFAC, what exaclty does SEFAC mean?

As I say probably a silly question but I have always wondered......the only SEFAC I know is Southern Equitorial Ferrari Automobili Club....and we could go on and on about the huge changes that are occuring in clubs names and the negotiations with Ferrari SPA....

    ...or thereabouts.

Just seen this (very old) thread and have to Strongly disagree welith El Wayne regarding the acronym ‘SEFAC’ as used in Ferrari racing terms.

    Its quite simply :

    Scuderia Enzo Ferrari Automobili Corsa

    (Scuderia Enzo Ferrari Racing Cars)

Regardless of what the acronym stood for, was there any particular reason for the change of company names (or even company itself), Anything to do with the litigation that surrounded the 57 Mille Miglia accident?

This is the Italian equivalent of Ltd, Inc, Plc, SA etc (depending on where in the world you are).

It stands for Societa per Azioni.

SAS stands for Super Army Soldiers, mate.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. I think you'll find El Wayne has forgotten more of this stuff than many of us will ever know.
At any rate, welcome to Chat. Always great to have one more voice in the conversation.

    El Wayne is correct.

Società Esercizio Fabbriche Automobili e Corse

The "&#224" is a computer glitch.

What said by El Wayne is 100% correct.

In 1960, in order to give a more modern and efficient shape to the company, Enzo Ferrari decided to transform his "one man company".
So the Ferrari became a limited company ( S.p.A.) and Enzo Ferrari became the main shareholder.
The chosen name was SEFAC with the above said meaning.

Some modenese people close to Enzo said, joking, that the real meaning of that acronym was :
Sempre Enzo Ferrari Al Comando, more or less as : "Enzo Ferrari is always the chief " ...

I have 1934(?) images of a Maserati 8CM based race car called "The SEFAC special".
Maserati agent Raymond Sommers in France was involved.

Raymond Sommer was more than a Maserati agent. He was a two time winner of Le Mans and then there was Torino in 1947. I think that this SEFAC is Societe d'Etude et de Fabrication d'Automobiles de Course. (Please excuse the lack of accents!)

So confusing. Ferrari stole the name!!! :)
