Last time I went to Paris I swore it was the last time I would ever go to Paris. That was Sept '88 and I've had no trouble keeping my promise, if you don't count transiting through DeGaulle. If you want to go to France go ANYwhere BUT Paris.

Parisians are the rudest people on earth. They more than cancel out all the good things. There are too many NICE places to go in France.

As somebody who has lived in Paris for several years, I will confirm the comment from DubaiVol.
Parisians are incredibly rude and not friendly at all with tourists, whom they consider as a nuisance.
Prices are exorbitant, service poor, cleanliness doubtful.
Hotels are often over-booked, with unhelpful staff, and you have to query the bills everywhere. Businesses that trade with foreign tourists have a tendency to systemativally overcharge them, hoping that they won't notice.
If there is a case of a magnificent town let down by its people, it's Paris!!
    Give me Italy any time...

Hawaii, i sort of just think of it is as just water everywhere, i am not to sure what interesting things their are there, instead of beach, something someone my age would like...ill be 18

    Paris: well yall said it...lol

Italy...it would be awesome to go to italy, the sights and the sounds, it would be heaven...

how is italy if anyone has been their?? The people, the prices??

I don't like Paris that much. Been there 3 or 4 times and it's nothing that great, overrated. I had a friend go to Hawaii for 2 weeks for his honeymoon and he got bored after about 3 days of sight-seeing. Italy would be my choice out of all of them. I would rather go to South Africa. That place is awesome.

The only reason I don't mind Paris is because I stay with friends when I go. Otherwise, it sucks. Parisians can all speak English, but they won't.

I've never really liked going to Hawaii, so I won't recommend it. Everyone goes there.

Go to Milan. It's great. Everywhere in Italy is great. My favorite is Naples.

    Whichever you choose, have fun!

I went to Rome like 10 months ago and had an awesome time. The food is wonderful, the cities are gorgeous, and I would recommend setting aside a few hundred dollars for clothes shopping while you're there. I'm not a huge fashion person, but their shoes especially are incredibly beautiful and well made. The food is amazing too. Small things like the parmesan cheese and the prosciutto (sp?) are a hundred times better than anything you will have stateside. I think you said you were going with the parents so you'll probably be staying in a hotel, but if you get a chance to go with friends and don't mind having minimal privacy, hostels (like a crappy hotel for students and young travelers) can be a great social experience. The one I stayed at had young people from all over the world staying there and we would go up to the roof terrace and drink wine and talk about our different worldviews and stuff. It was very very stimulating to be around well traveled foreigners. They're hookup city too ;)

By the way it looks...im slowly leanging towards italy...well, im almost set on it...lol

the reason italy is its different and if your not on business many people do not get a chance to see it..while hawaii seems a bit like "yea ive been their too'...and paris i can see why yall say these things...probably wont go there...

We are set on hotel already thats not a problem...we will have money saved up for the expenses and im a shop-alcholic, so that should be fun...

The thing about italy is that...we can take a train from any part if i assum correctly??...rome, venice is a must...

anybody been to Italy and has any suggestions such as spending money or for us to look up so we do not get completely lost??

Thanks we will be whereever we go for a week...

I agree, Hawaii is a very very laid back environment for a youngster. Not a lot of wild and crazy activities. For me its the cats pajama's. But I go to bed at 8:00.

I've been to all three, but I am torn on which I like the best, as they are all very different places.

Hawaii is great if you like beaches, swimming, and sun. While there, I stayed at the Hilton Waikiloa (sp?), which was a great and interesting hotel. It might be a little cheesy with things like boats and monorails to get to your room, but it was fun. The scuba diving was also amazing, and an experience i'll never forget.

I really like Paris, and I didn't find the people rude at all. If you are a shop-a-holic, then Paris is certainly on the list of places to go (and I'm from Manhattan). I am also really into French food and art, so that's one reason Paris is one of my favorite cities. I agree that southern France is a lot more laid back and less pretentious, but Paris isn't all that bad!

As for Italy, I've been there three or four times, and I didn't like it all that much. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to go, but IMHO not better than Paris. I have been to Rome, which is nice, but not that special. Next I went to Positano, which was an amazing resort area (i'd go back just for that). I have also been to sicily, which was ok. It was nice because we were with local friends, and sicilians I found to be some of the most hospitable people, and their home cooking is, well... you can't get that anywhere else.

My dad is in South Africa right now. He sent me his photo link and it looks awesome!!! Africa would be at the top of my list for international trips.
You can take a micro-flight over Victoria Falls, bunji jump from the bridge that connects Zambia to Zimbabwe, visit Mandela's cell, see all kinds of wildlife and countless other things. But of course I'm not sure if you could stay at a Hyatt.

Sorry John, gonna hijack the thread and post some photos.

Great pics!!! I was there for 3 weeks. Stayed at a Double Tree for about 8 days (2 4 day stays). Stayed at this other place in Capetown that was like a little city with walls all around it. It was a hotel, though. Other time spent was in those small shacks in Kruger National Park or other hotels along the coast. Amazing trip, everyone should go at least once in their life. :)

I really like Paris...but maybe when I went, I hung out with only American kids. If you don't speak French they aren't gonna go out of their way to help you. Theyll just stare at you until you say the right thing. The bums are pretty nice, though.

I hear Milan is a big let down. I'd like to go back to somewhere remote, near the sea. Hawaii...well, I hear its flooded with Japanese, but very beautiful and everyone should go once in their life.

    So, Paris or Hawaii.
