I had to sacrifice gambling to own my Ferrari . . . It was very tough, but I did it ;)

What do you want to hear?

    Sudz, my 2 cents worth:

    WHEN I bought my 308,...

I was working for a bank making only average money; did not own a business

Going to a new position that will allow me to maximize my earnings based on my experience & talents

I structured a way to financially afford the car of my dreams (paid off my used 4 Runner & the wife's used Corvette then showed her that the payments on the 308 would be less than the Corvette & 4 Runner payments combined)

I learned to do as much work on the car by myself as possible to save money

I cannot write a check for ANY Ferrari I want

Finance if you must (many will disagree with me here), but a decent 308 can run $25K-$30K. Think about a Home Equity Loan or Line of Credit, or put 20% down & finance with J.J. Best (www.jjbest.com) or Premier with good credit.

Remember to consider the cost of upkeep & maintainance.....(save up & plan ahead)

I owned a 1981 308 GTSi for 4 years (financial change in life forced a sell), but I'll be getting back to owning one very soon....(another 308 w/ an NSX as a daily driver, or a 355 or 360)

    BUT...

I do not live a boring lifestyle

I own a nice daily driver now, with more to come

I plan on buying another house within the year...to be paid off as soon as I'm able to

I do not have any kids (BIG expense saved there), but I am planning an engagement & wedding soon (BIG expense NOT to be saved there)

Was I afraid to "pull the trigger"? Hell no. I bought a reasonably priced 308 that was well taken care of and did not need too much work. Buy carefully.

Sleepless nights? Nah. Life's short, enjoy! Get in over your head? Retreat to fight again another day; I did.

    Buy one and enjoy it.

As said above, you should fill out your profile so people know something about who's asking.

I don't lead a boring life, but I'm not sickeningly rich and I certainly can't write a check for any Ferrari I want (would love a Daytona spider, but my check would bounce before I could get the key in the ignition...)

My sacrifice is that my daily driver is always something pretty ordinary. It makes starting up the Ferrari that much better. Happily, some of the cars that I really admire the most (328/TR) are ones that I CAN write a check for. When I'm driving the 328, I honestly don't want any other car.

I wouldn't make stupid sacrifices -- ruined marriage, compromising kids' college education, etc. -- but if you're upper-middle class you can probably afford a very respectable (used) Ferrari.

EDIT: PenP, love that avatar. :)

poorly posed question, but I think I might sorta see the point.

most car enthusiasts are ordinary people, most millionaires are ordinary people, we all have priorities and we all make sacrifices, it is simply a matter of how we do it.

I don't have a ferrari... that's the sacrifice I made so my wife could stay home and we could have kids...

having a great life with my wife is more important than a ferrari... but someday they will coincide.

I just hope I can accellerate my earnings faster than she accellerates the size of our family!!!!
