Any thoughts on a safe way to get superglue (Krazyglue brand, I think) off a black Ferrari? An attempt was already made to remove it, it appears, which resulted in it being smeared and leaving a rough texture on top of the paint in an area about 2 square inches.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

I would try super glue remover (they sell it at most places). Then follow it up with rubbing compound/polish to smooth out the paint.

    Acetone will dissolve the glue.

I think it'll probably do some damage to the paint. Might want to check on a spot on the car where it won't show first.

I've seen body shop guys remove imperfections with a razor. This might be a job for a professional.

Last but not least PM Peters, he sells the stuff.

call me crazy but i use acetone on all my cars to remove tarr/bugs gum junk like that. works great on the 'soot' from the exhaust on the ferrari. no damage, and i follow up with wax. unlike laquer thinner acetone evaporates FAST! so it has little time to dissolve the clear coat and paint. now i wouldn't go pouring it on, but dab a rag and wipe.

First, I would take it to a professional for their opinion.

However, if you want to fix it yourself, I would suggest a paint run/nib remover. These are like a small file on a wood block specifically designed to shave off paint runs or paint nibs from dirt, etc. Just take it slow and keep it flat. If it gets tipped, you will cause a scratch.

See http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2004087/showCustom-0/p-2004087/N-111+10201+600003548/c-10101 for what they look like.

After you are done, you probably will have to wet sand the area and re-polish it.

    Regards, Kerry

I use 3M general purpose adhesive remover #08984.

You can get at automotive paint supply, or some autoparts stores.

I've never used it on superglue but have used it to remove decals and I use it to remove bugs and tar and rubber. One thing for sure it is safe on the paint.

Thank you all for the responses so far. Interesting varied suggestions. This weekend I'll hopefully try some of them.

    Thanks again.

I think I have this right: Superglue was originally developed as a surgical suture replacement - for battlefield wounds. As such, it is water-soluable, even when dry. You might try flushing the area with water over a long period of time (hours) and see if that works.
