This is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen (including the ancillary threads and the whole history). It's a site about cars, for god's sake. Amazing how wrapped up people can get (on all sides). Yikes. My hat goes out to the Moderators. Amazing! (And I suppose this is just the tip of the iceberg?)

Stuff like this never happens on the Lotus ring...

Nurse Ratched. Funny that you would post that.

Of all the people on this site, I think he owes Venusone the biggest apology; I know I do, too. On down the line he has something to talk about with another member, his former buddy, but that's between them.

I was an idiot to parrot his bull****, but I did because I was sheep even though I thought otherwise.

Grats Matteo, the person you maligned the most is the person you could never, ever be.

I have been flollowing this thread on and off just to see how much it would cost but...now it's a totally different subject. I usually don't spend too much time in Ferrari forums but I have noticed that imagination seems to be large for some at the Ferrari forums that I have never seen in other forums that I have been to such as 4x4, moutain biking, motorcycles, watches,...Some of the stuffs I remembered reading: A guy named Clyde who never existed, he was invented by some Ferrari forum members, this imaginary Clyde had a TR. Then couple years back some guy who claimed to have a 355 which he never owned and now this.

I think the Clyde your refering to is from the Flist, dont know if he ever was on Fchat. But the Clyde I know is a real person, is a Pilot, and does in fact own a TR. Don't know what else to say. No matter where you go you will find BS'ers, so its all relative. And if Matteo can do this my hat is off to him. It could end up the most perfect 308 in the world, as well as the most expensive.

Wow, 7,000 views, take a look how many threads have this many views, not that many, and the few I looked at were started in 04 & 05. The guy is a Master for peaking peoples interest, lets give this guy a little credit for peaking that much interest and drama. I think if he would have presented the whole thing a little differently it wouldn't have caused all this drama. He has got me checking back all the time, it is kinda fun. Say when is the dancing fool back anyhow???? I await all his nasty comments when he digs in here. I bet before this is all over the view count will be over 15,000.

I mostly agree with Birdman's definition of value. There's what something is worth (in $, emotion, sweat, or whatever units I personally care to express it in).

And there's market or resale value which is what someone is willing to pay for it.

A good example is a family heirloom watch, piece of furniture. It may be worth $50 to an antique dealer, but it's priceless to a family member who might well be willing to pay a lot more than $50 to have it restored to pristine condition.

Anyway, I really just want to know what the factory quotes for the restoration.

I know of a Gentleman who took his 2 F-1 cars to the factory to be "freshened up". One car was there for a year and the other one was there several to many months longer. He didn't tell me how much the cost was but I have to think it was astronomical!
I hope Matt gets back with an estimate soon.

But I would think a F-1 car would me much simpler and quicker to freshen up, no?

Never been around an F-1 car up close, have you? Ever seen a $175 spark plug?

I have, the couple I've been around are pretty simple/plain until you get to the mechanicals. I would suspect there are many more parts on a 308 so I figure it would take longer to freshen one up. I suspect a factory restoration of a 308 would take a lot of time. Then again, I could be wrong.
I have never seen a $175 spark plug, that must be really special.

Want another example? My little black 1980 VW Scirocco. It has a 2.0 16V that has been ported, polished, balanced, etc., etc., A bare metal respray and complete retrim in leather. I am still not done. I was just on the phone yesterday with a shop out in Cal. about some other work (and I live in Alabama). The car has a book value of about $250. I have spent about $20,000 on it since 2001 and I don't give a **** what anyone thinks about it either. I love that car. My mother bought it for me the summer before my senior year in high school in 1985 and up until 5 years ago it was the only car I ever drove. It stopped being a daily driver only because it became a restoration project. I wouldn't take 6 figures for it. No way. If VW offered a factory restoration, it would be on the next boat with it's "blank check".

It's my car and my money and no one else's business how I spend it or what I spend it on. Same goes for 308's (especially MY 308).

    So there.

The devil is in the details. Think about how hard it is to find parts for 308s versus how many of those there were made. F1 parts aren't exactly something that Ferrari would keep stock of. After all, some pieces are only designed to last one race weekend and for one track (and in the case of older F1 cars, maybe even just one session).

Tommy, you are my hero. This is what I'm talking about. The value in a car sometimes is more than just book value or what you can get on eBay.

It's just like when the lost-post count trolls come on the board with some lame question or idea. A few member will always suggest to ignore them....That rarely happens and then then the threads go to ten pages until a Mod closes the thread....Maybe this thread should have been closed many pages back!

Matt contacted me by PM so im assuming he is no longer banned. Perhaps he recieved his quote from ferrari and he can lay it out for us. Im curious to see if it was a $100K quote or $150K quote.

Matteo- my question is, if you could get it restored to perfection for $50k or so, would you still drive it, or drain the fluids and park it in your livingroom as a display piece.
