So recently this new guy moved in the neighborhood right across the street from me. He wasn't a problem at first but he started brining his vehicles to his house. He has a 2 RV's, a motorcycle, 5 regular cars and sea-doo's parked on his lawn! He parks his RV's down the street by the neighborhood park and the front of his house (150ft+ stretch) is filled up with cars. So is his driveway. Talk about white trash. He has so many cars that he parks two of them in front of my house, making me either park way down the street or in front of another neighbors house which I do not want to do because I have my own space but it is being occupied by vehicles that are not mine. I have to park my car on the side of the street but not on the driveway because the sprinklers go off all of the time and when my car is on the drive way this gets me waterspots which forces me to wash my car which I hate. There is a long stretch along the side of my house, he could park them down the street more instead of directly on the side of my house. No one is allowed to park in front of my house because it is a corner lot and there is a fire hydrant. He seems like the type of guy to give me the "it's a public street" type of argument. What should I do? I am thinking about just talking to him about it and telling him that I need the space.

P.S. The garage is occupied with my Dad's cars.

I would just tell him in a polite way that you need the space yourself :) Maybe he isn't that bad or stubborn as you think?

Check your deed restrictions. I'll bet parking cars on your lawn is a no no.
Time to drop a dime and rat him out to the city.
Do the cars parked in front of your house move regularly? Or do they just sit?
Parking regs usually require they move every few days or they can be ticketed.

If he moves his cars snag the spots in front of your place with your own vehicles.

Yeah, he plays by the rules. He occasionally moves them around. One day he did not park there. I parked my car in front of my house. I later on went to the store, only to find his truck full of tree stumps parked in the space I once occupied. I am going to give the guy a try but if he does not comply then indeed I will have to take action. He's not really friendly though, I tell him hello and he just shrugs. This is going to feel very awkward but it has to be taken care of.

Easy, have the sprinklers spray his cars and he'll probably move. Or, get some of those orange cones and place them in front of your place. He'll get the drift. Aside from that figure out how he's breaking the local ordinances and rat him out. It seems like talking it out with these knuckleheads these days only leads to more problems. Good luck

Sounds like one of those difficult neighbor to neigbor situations.

I'm just throwing out a suggestion..
You hire an elite tactical team to sneak in his house at night and fill his room with knockout gas, so he sleeps through a nuclear blast.
You then have the team pluck each vehicle with helocopters and have them drop his hulks, RV's etc. into the Bay. The Sea-Doo's they'll have to fill with lead or drill holes to sink them. Just to humor him, leave one car. When he comes to, he'll obviously file several stolen car reports, which should take a considerable amount of time to locate. Meanwhile your neigborhood is excessive-car free.

So, let's see if I read this right. Your driveway is empty but you don't want to park there because the sprinklers get your car wet? How about adjusting the sprinklers so they don't waste water on the driveway and you can park there??

Not that his parking that many cars all over the place is the right thing to do either but if it's a public street I'd say it's first come first served.

But he still should not be allowed to park directly in front of his house, escp. if it's a violation due to the fire hydrent.

It's a narrow drive way and the only way I could do that because I have the sprinklers that shoot upright and are placed in the middle of the lawn (wide spray.) I could get the system re arranged which would mean digging under the grass, replacing the pipes, etc...I don't think so. This guy rarley moves the cars. The same truck has been parked in the same spot since last month. The only time he moved it was on July 4th because he could not park there due to a fire works show we were going to have at the neighborhood church. July 5th I beat him to it, I was parked there and he saw that. So what does he do once I move the car? He immediatley parks back in the same spot. What ticks me off is he doesn't have to park directly in front of the house, the block stretched down for 200ft of fench from my backyard. Instead he chooses to park directly, in the middle of my house taking up the only shade I have from my one tree. He knows it and he rudley continues to park his vehicles there. Not just the truck, but sometimes his station wagon in front of his truck and even his Honda Civic behind his truck.

As I see it, you got 3 choices

    1) Man up and confront the guy

    2) Call the city and see if he's violating any city regs

    3) Just live with it

If it's a public street and the cars are legal, then yes, he can park in front of your house.

Don't worry about it until he drags a sofa onto his porch and his toothless cousin Zeke plants himself there with a banjo!

Stick a nail against the tire in direction of rolling.
By the time he gets a flat he won't be able to determine where he got it.
Do it on a regular basis, that will make him sick of his cars, remember to always greet him and be polite.....

I would advise against taking any action which would damage his vehicles. Not only would it be illegal, but it would start a war. I have seen several lawsuits between neighbors and it is as ugly as a divorce case. You can see how things started escalating until the parties abandoned all reason. I suggest that you look at your neighborhood restrictions and the city code. The city code is your best bet as you can get the police to enforce the violations. A violation of neighborhood restrictions may give you or your neighborhood the power to take some legal action, but it does not give the police the power to enforce any violation in the absence of the neighbor’s violation of a court order.

You didn’t indicate if he purchased the house or is renting the house. If he is renting, the landlord may be of some assistance, especially if he is parking on the grass.

But then again you could always get a trunk monkey. http://www.trunkmonkeyad.com/4qt.htm

He has to be violating some type of deed restrction, HOA rules, city ordinances. Even if it's a public street or whatever, I doubt you're allowed to use it as a car storage lot to park your 10 cars.

    I'd look into that.

I've also had problems with neighbors before, not parking issues, but other irritating things.

I tried all kinds of stuff and the one final thing that worked was "law enforcement"
The police do 3 things: warn you, ticket you, jail you.

Don't bother talking to him. It will mark you as the target and I seriously doubt this guy is going to say "oh gee-wiz, didnt realize my 15 cars were in your way. I'll store them for $500 a month so you will think I'm a good neighbor"

He knows exactly what he's doing and he's had the same problem, argument, confrontation at his last residence(s). He knows what to do and say to prolong the issue day by day, week, month, year etc. There are many of these types and they have too much junk, so they spread it around and they dont change.

My aunt had a guy renting a unit in their condo bldg. He bought and sold old Cadillacs. There were always no less than 10 of these things parked outside the bldg along the street. He knew exactly when to move them, how much he could get away with, and what to say to anyone who confronted him about it.

I'd suggest calling parking enforcement first and stay on them. You will need to invest time in this and be very persistant. They may already know the guy from his other residence. That was the case with the cadillac guy.

I am really amazed at everyone saying to call the City or rat him out to some authority as the first step. COWARDS!

Go to the guys door, knock on it and have a normal converstion with the guy about the problem. Be rational. Make it known that you do not park in the space in front of his home and you expect him to extend you the same respect.

If he does not respond in a favorable manner.... THEN get whomever you wish involved.

But dont be a coward and make your first step begging some authority to do your complaining for you.

Everyone complains about what a litigious society we are and how we have giant Govt. running all aspects of our lives... but then when a neighbor does something we dont like rather than cowboy up and and try to work it out like men we want some Govt. entity to "fix it" for us.

Tell me: Which would YOU respond better too: Your neighbor politely asking you to not park in front of their house OR A policeman ticketing you because your neighbor complained to the authorities without coming to you first?

I'm assuming that this is your dad's house? What has your dad said about all of this? Perhaps it could help if both of you went over and talked to the guy, explaining your situation.
