I normally don't bust balls too badly but I can't understand how anyone would be seriously considering a $75000 (or whatever) car but not fork over the $24.99 for unlimited carfaxes. This is the 2nd in two days, isn't it?

typically what you get from a first time poster from a rookie. One that really has no idea what their getting into - like those that window shop a puppy at Christmas....never a good idea.

I must agree....be a "high roller" & get the car fax or autocheck account for under $30.....Seems trivial on a $$$$$$ toy car purchase..??

As a newbie, a guy looking at 355's; I was disappointed with the replies so far. I would like to offer some observations:

    1) Not everyone likes to surf the web and hand their credit card info out (to get carfax)
    2) In the time it takes to tell someone to get their own, a kind soul could have sent him the information (and saved him $20)
    3) I have seen people carfax VIN's for less reasons (once to find out someone was a poser on the 360 list)
    4) Some of us hope to never need a carfax...hoping to find a car with one owner, no stories, and complete receipts
    lastly:
    5) Most people new to the Ferrari scene, looking for a 355 (like myself) are quite gun shy, given the many expensive repairs...are looking for help, advice, and possible inside or personal experience with a given car.

What you state does make good sense, and that advice and knowledge you can get here in abundant quantities.

However, sharing your Carfax account is a violation of the CarFax regulations and conditions. Many of us feel a sense of obligation to CarFax to ensure its longevity by supporting them financially and by following their regulations.

Have you thought what it would cost you in both time and money to acquire what they provide in minutes?

The emphasis here is probably due to your abrupt request for this information being so new.

If you are so skittish about your CC info on the net, CarFax does provide a phone # and you can call in that info.

The amount required is less than you spend a month on many of your discretionay expenses, AND, you would be legitimately supporting CarFax.

Spend the $, check the appropriate section, and use the search function.

You will be surprised as to what you'll learn so you don't make a bad purchase.

First of all, I am not new to the Ferrari scene, just been away from them for five years. The 355 I am looking at will be my third Ferrari. I just now got reminded of the ego maniac jerks that some of the owners can be. Yes, I can afford to buy the car fax information, just wanted to see if someone out there had a quick link to CarFax. That was it, didn't mean to excite a few of those jerks.........

Maybe you might want to think about stepping away from the site until your attitude changes.

Name calling does not win friends and influence people. Suggestions were made.

Maybe the comments made were not particularly endearing to you, but I don't recall anyone using the style of language you have!

Relax. This is a great place. Become a constructive member.

I have been on the site for a few months and there are some jerks on this site but the best thing to do is ignore them. It's a shame that people have to cop an attitude over such trivial stuff. I personally love F-cars but the attitude of some of the owners really turns me off. I wish you luck in your search.

I will restate my thoughts on carfax. When you go to sign up it offers you two choices. One is for one carfax report, the othre is for 'unlimited' car fax reports for 30 days or something to that effect. It does not indicate anywhere (prior to selecting your option) that you should not run a carfax for a friend etc... If I had an active account I would certainly not feel bad running the report for a person who requested it from me. I did a few for my brother when I had my carfax active (when I was buying a 348). Where are all the 'be nice to the new guys' from the general discussion area??? To the original poster, read that thread and see what the site might offer you. Good luck in the search!

The last car I sold, I paid for the carfax knowing full well people would ask for it. No sense in every prospective buyer having to cough up $20 for the priviledge. Ask the seller to provide it, very reasonable request. Also, I am fully aware that carfax is only one source of information and I know that they do not and cannot provide all relevant and critical info so I wouldn't be tooting their horn to loudly.

Overreact much? If "quick" was what you were after, you could have signed up and pulled the carfax yourself in less time than it took to make your post and check back for results.

I agree with Douge. Had sellers pulled that report for me, would have helped their position. It would have given that "nothing to hide" confidence.

Though during my search I must have bought at least three unlimited Carfax's, and yes I allowed one of my friends to use it when he was looking for a motorcycle. So to do it for someone who was not my friend....well I probably would not jump too far.

On another note, I kind of enjoy reading all the extreme opinions on the various subjects......This forum is too much fun!

Pricing for autocheck.com (an experian company) is CHEAP. In fact it is probably cheaper than shipping a part or filling your tank HALF way with gas. IMHO dumb not to buy this or carfax if you are a serious buyer....Anyone not investing $25 for free chance to pull unlimited checks for a couple months is not a serious buyer & ends up on equola's BB post around a level 1......
    FYI here is ACTUAL pricing:

"You are purchasing unlimited AutoCheck vehicle history reports for $24.99! AutoCheck Assured reports automatically come with Buyback Protection.
When you have VINs, login to AutoCheck anytime within 60 days, then enter your VIN to get your reports."

It is unfortunate such attitudes exist and you are correct in your thinking. These are the same kind of guys that show up to car shows or Ferrari get togethers with that same attitude. You know the guys that have the "biggest and badest Ferrari". Most of the Ferrari owners I invite to our little get togethers are very sincere and secure with their accomplishments kind of folks. Every once in awhile we get one that is just better than all of us. We must all remember, at the end of the day Ferraris are just cars, and we are all just regular people.

The only issue about all this is that the carfax report starts with a note that says:

"Report Generated for (your name) For Personal Use Only"

So whomever posts the results on the forum might be liable of breaking that rule. Otherwise, we are all here to help each other enjoy these gorgeous cars. Just a thought.
