355 lift actuators for engine cover

Go look under the "348/355" section, there is an active thread on this right NOW. BTW, the 348 and 355 use the same ones...and they are the same for the engine and front hood as well.

 

Maybe someone in your area can re-gas them for you. It can be done. Even if you have to post them to someone who can. It may save you some dollars. My front bonnet gas struts are starting to get slack, so i may get mine done soon.

 

Dude, they are only $28 each on the internet for factory oem Sach units. I think someone found a Sachs over the counter unit at a autoparts store that fit, and was slightly higher rated (more resistance) for even LESS. Recharging sounds good, but if they leaked out the gas....wouldn't they just do it again?

There you go, cheap as chips. You can get them re-gased. Not sure how they do it, but they do. We send them away to get them re-gased for customers all the time. Not for Ferrari, but for alot of other cars/4WD's ect..... On average, they would cost AU$5-20 each to re-gas any size strut, with a few days turn around with a 1 year warranty. Very very cheap. To buy new ones, always varies in price of course. Very rare to find some that cost the same as getting them re-gased. The average would be AU$70-$100+ each. So you can imagine why customers appreciate us helping them out as we do. Alot of people, no matter how wealthy they are, still dont mind saving money here and there. But........for $14, you may as well buy them new.

 

Understand...with the prices you are talking about, regassing can make sense, and worth a shot.

Re-gassing lift struts isn't readily available in the States. I tried to find someone to re-gas the front struts on my TR, but I had no luck finding anyone who had even heard of the process here

 

Really? There would be a massive market there for them as you guys have alot of cars on the road. Unless they are sold very cheap over there.

 

In the UK they are only £70. I bought some two months ago and now when the lever is pulled the engine lid lifts its self, cool

 

I say get the real exact replacements from either Ricambi (if you want it from Ferrari) or Rockauto.com if you want a cheaper price.

The aftermarket ones are not identical. Size, compression, construction, end caps... all different on the "aftermarket" ones.

 

Actually Daniel, the ones Rockauto.com carries ARE the oem factory Sachs/Stabilus units. I purchased a pair from Rockauto.com earlier this year for around $28 delivered each (I think) and they were identical in every way, and in all markings, with the exception of the manufacture date stamped on them.

Now then ones mentioned sold at Pep Boys are also supposed to be Sachs units, but in this case, where made for another application, and were noted to be slightly longer, and higher rated. What if any other physical/cosmetic differences, I am unsure....

 

I bought some too -- last week. Mine didn't come from PepBoys, they came directly from my local Sachs representative in Gastonia NC where they are manufactured. The Ferrari/Stabilus ones are manufactured in Germany.

Although they are Sachs, they are not the same specification as the Ferrari ones. I certainly don't want to create a big issue over something as minor as these struts. The Sachs ones have a larger diameter cylinder, slightly longer housing, plastic end caps, and a higher compression rating, and most significantly, require end user refitting of the ball screw at the end. No, it's not a big deal to refit the screw. But to say they're "identical" simply isn't accurate.

Do they work? Yes.
Are they close enough for some people? Yes.
Are they identical? No.

 

Not the Sachs ones I bought from Rockauto.com...they were IDENTICAL...in everyway...and every marking, including the 400N rating. The ONLY difference was the manufacturing date. Now it is possible that they are now sourcing differently...but the ones I bought in jan/feb of this year were identical.

 

OK, that's cool... I'm not trying to argue. I used the Sachs p/n that was listed earlier in this thread. Frankly, I would have posted these pictures sooner if I wasn't so distracted by something that Dr. Strangelove posted in our local NC forum. Blame him.
