Not sure if any of you have read the Car magaizine issue with the 599, Lambo, and 997tt on the cover. I found one part of the article on the 599 very interesting. It appears that Ferrari has implied that this will be the last generation of cars that they will make offering a gearshift.

Then a 599 would be the last new Ferrari I would ever consider buying. Enough of this paddle shifter crap already...

    Yeah, yeah, I'm a Luddite, I know.

I understand the practicality and supremity of the F1 shift, but something about that disgusts me.

I'm sure people had this discussion when carbs went away, although I admit I really enjoy manually shifting my yester-tech 328. It's a car, not a video game.

that's odd, Montezemulo(sp?) was quoted once when the auth-shifts came out that 'Ferrari would -always- supply a manual shifter with there cars, if desired'...

My understanding is the 6 speed costs more and is an option on the 430. A big part of the fun of owning a sports car is being able to shift through the gears!

AFAIK, the F1 gearbox is still a $10k option.

I dont think they will stop supplying a manual shifter. Thats bs if they do. F1 shifters are cool but whenever I see them on Ferraris in person they dont look as good as the Ferraris I see with the shiny chrome gated shifter. Its a Ferrari trademark. Course it was a bigger trademark before the F1 paddles came along, but come on...no generation is ever going to be completely f1 gearbox. Even if the factory gets no orders for a manual, it shouldnt be axed.

Love manual shift for street driving, though for the track i'd LOVE to have paddles. Perfect shifts/rev matching every time PLUS my old car was auto and enjoyed the ability to have one foot gas, one for brake.
