Good questions? Can MS be the winner of one grands prix eight times? Will Michelin be the tire winner at their home gp? Track temp currently at 130 degrees - GREAT for Bridgestones. Twenty minutes and we'll know how's it going to start with MS and FM sitting one-two with FA behind them. On a side note - if you don't follow ALMS, you missed a great race last night. Risi's Ferrari got a penalty for changing tires prior to the race and went from class pole to bottom but Melo/Salo came thru a great line-up of GT1 cars to win the class! Carol
How do those extra wings on the bmw's help? I was up till a little after 4 yesterday watching qualifing and no here we go for the race I cant wait
I was surprised at that, too. Even DC, who I thought had some more class, threw in a few jokes. I thought these guys were fans of racing, I guess not.
Absolutely BRILLANT move by Massa - he did EXACTLY what was necessary at the start. If Trulli can now get up and pass Alonso that would be wonderful. Massa is flying. Way to go Ferrari Carol Pit stop strategy is going to be a definite key in this race. I remember sitting at the hairpin in '04 saying to John, what the heck is Ferrari doing, MS is in the pits again! - the memorable 4 pitstop race.
I think David Hobbs gets it...Alonso is on a short first stint. His grid time was his second fastest of the weekend, while Fisi was .6 secs slower. I'm not certain that Ferrari is on a 3-stopper. Their qualifying times were .4 or .5 secs slower than their fastest time of the weekend. That's consistent with most of the grid.
Almost seems like Massa is running a bit quick... Seems like he should be conserving as much as possible to kinda hold thing up for Alsono. edit: yeah, what hobbs said
That was an exciting race to be at...it was incredible that Ferrari pulled it off, but they could do no wrong that year.
Really makes you wonder why they wouldn't put a ton of fuel in MS car, put him on a 2 stop, and make Alonso run his lead down. Seems like now MS has to push really hard to make up the pit stop distance.
Like I thought, Alonso was on a 3-stopper also. Didn't think Fisi was. Can Ralf get past Alonso on stops? edit: never mind...snake-bitten at the pits again.
Anybody else notice that the 2 renault cars are diffrent. Alonso has a little air inlet, just aft of the front axle. Maybe to cool down his legs?
Massa needs to pick it up. He's only 13 secs up on Alonso with a pit stop remaining. He should be out of traffic by now. edit: he's in trouble...only 10 secs up on Alonso and 15 secs up on Kimi. He could fall off of the podium (Kimi had that 10-sec stop where he loaded up on fuel) Come on Massa...
