Today I did the gearshaft sealing O-rings replacement, as described here many times on Fchat. All went well more or less, nothings beats oil dripping in your hair on the hottest tropical days ever had over here.
But when all was put together and I went for a drive, I noticed there was good oil pressure but the engine wasn't revving as freely and the idle was at 700, 200 below normal, though it sounded not too bad. But when I shut off the engine, bam, it stopped in 0.1 second, normally it lasts a little longer because of flywheel and stuff, not a full second of course, but now it seemed like there was a handbrake on the flywheel so to say.
What can be the cause? I had both sump covers off to replace the gearlinkage shaft O-rings. The oilpump pickup has this nylon round filter hold by a retaining clip that I cleaned and put back. I also replaced the oilfilter. After I unscrewed the old one, I filled the central hole with oil, then I filled the new filter with oil, and put it on in a swift move to avoid much spilling. I don't see where anything could have gone wrong. Can it be that it is a faulty oilfilter that is blocking the oil, so that the oilpump has a lot of resistance? It is not the clutch or gearbox, it is in the engine itself and I'm guessing an oil problem, now that I think of it, I also heard knocking noises but I thought that was just some clearance issue since I had the motormount loosened.
As a first test tomorrow I will put the old oilfilter on for a moment. If that doesn't help I'll pull the engine sump cover again but not sure what I can see or do there. Any tips? Thanks.

It almost sounds as if it is running on 4 cyls. No wierd noises, and even somewhat quiet? I would check that both banks are firing.

I would double check ALL replaced or removed gear parts, if one is put on backwards it would look OK... but the clearences front to back, of the gear my be causing the binding in the engine, this has happend to me when working on the clutch, the gears all looked right but had major resisteance when trying to move the car forward.. i thought i had my parking brake on also..... so a gear maybe a factor in your case also.

both banks are firing, I know how it feels if only 1 bank is going. Also this wouldn't explain the sudden stop of the engine after turning off the ignition.

I don't think it has anything to do with the gearbox or clutch, the low idle is when in neutral with/without clutch depressed. Besides, I didn't replace any parts other than the O-rings, did adjust the shifting mechanism and shifts more precise now, that is the shiftshaft coming from the shifter length and angle I optimized.

II can only get to the car tomorrow, I will report then the effect on changing the oilfilter.
