My bottle has started to leak between the bottle and pump. Anyone know how to disassemble this for repairs? Henry
Hi Henry! I may be wrong but isn't the watter bottle have a rubber gromett where the pump just press fit into? Normally if there is a gromett just pop the pump carefully. Let me know if this is what you have. Mike
My 308 is a Euro and has the small width spare tire. In that set-up, the washer bottle hangs from the wall between the radiator and the spare tire compartment, on the spare tire side. Is yours configured the same? --- The reason for interest is that my washer assembly is not connected and the bottle, etc. is ina parts box in the garage. As part of the completion of my restoration, I want to put this whole package back in like-new condition. --- Any pictures? rick #28133 308GTB
Rick, Yeah, mine is the same. I took a better look today...the pump is pressed into the bottle but there is a metal retaining ring on the pump inside the bottle. I'll try and post some pix tomorrow.
It's held in with a brass ring that has notched tabs around the ID. The ring is a press fit over the end of the pump that's inside the bottle. There's a rubber washer that goes between the pump & the bottle & is supposed to be pulled in tightly enough to seal. Problem is that these washers are getting very hard & don't seal worth a darn. I pulled mine apart a couple of years ago & tried sealing the washer with RTV sealant. Lasted about a year, then I jiggled the pump & it's leaking again. It was a real bear working with a long thin screwdriver to get that brass ring backed off. It wanted to chew up the plastic as it came off. Then used a socket with a flex joint & long extension to press it back on. Have been meaning to make a mold of that washer & cast a new one out of one of my mold making rubbers or a soft polyurethane.
If the bottle is cracked or damaged and you need to replace, I have a used one off 85 QV in excellent condition with cap, but without pump.
