I did a quick search and didn't find a reference to this video. It is on Compfused and was made in 1978 by Claude Lelouch.

The sound of the 275 GTB through the streets of Paris is perfect.

    enjoy!!

A search for "rendevous" shows it has been mentioned 117 times here. THere are probably 40+ threads on it.

    JTremlett posted this:
In this French book http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASI...449387-3183359 Lelouch discusses all his films including C'Etait Un Rendezvous. Lelouch was the driver and the car was his own Mercedes. The Mercedes is pictured with the camera mount attached (I believe the car is white, but the picture is black & white, so can't be sure). Of course, it is much more interesting to believe it was a Ferrari driven by a racing driver than a four-door Mercedes driven by a film director!!!

I think this is the most 'rediscovered' topic on Fchat.

I'm guilty of starting a thread (an early one but most likely not the first) when I joined Fchat.

    Great movie by the way.

    Regards,

    Art S.

At last a thread thats not a repost - fantastic idea that does not debunk (totally) the myth - I've only watched it once but he says it was filmed from a Mercedes with Lelouche driving and later the Ferrari sioundtrack added - I caught a comment about 160 kph at one point and i think also 200 kph

i will try to translate some moments but someone more fluent (as amenasce or chalstrad could do it better than me)

    - do you recognize the car ?
    - yes, it was the same, my own car, we were three in the car with the camera in the front and a remote to control it (claude lellouche)

1 mn 30 we were driving really fast here 200 km/h (125 mph)

    - please don't do it again
    - don't worry. at 5 am you believe the world and paris is yours
we decided to do this film during the night and we only have one shot to make it realistic, and i never felt that it was that risky

    3 mn 41 160km/h (100 mph)

    - some people said that it was a pro driver ?
    - no it was me (claude lellouche) and for a simple reason that we decided during the night to make it

    4 mn 35
    - this is the only place i was afraid of, so i put someone with a radio to tell me if it was clear or not, as he said nothing we went through and we learned later that the radio had no more battery

he was only afraid of running out of film before the end
and for the pleasure of the spectator he did the same way with a ferrari for a soundtrack

7 mn 12 he should have turn right but there was a truck in the street and decided to take a longer way, he is still afraid about the film at this moment and to face another car in the montmartre streets and has to stop. fortunately there was nobody so early and he arrived safe
he honked before the stairs so the girl can come up to meet him

that's all, but other can add more

I know I had read it before, but it takes away all the passion and finesse knowing it was a Merc and not a Ferrari

Thanks for the short translation. I hope someone can download, translate and upload....then again you need a lot of free time...But that would be a very gracious gesture.

p.s this is the kind of stuff that Speed Channel should be showing....instead of 7 days etc

if its any concelation, he actually did the route again for the soundtrack, so at least what your hearing is authentic and thats the important part.

Interesting, Wik. states this, "Recent claims made by the director himself, however, suggest he drove his own Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 in the film and dubbed the sound effects of a Ferrari 275GTB."

Somehow I doubt he physically drove the streets again with an actual 275 and that's where the sounds are from. I don't doubt a 275 but the sound is dubbed as stated above.

Well so much for Claude's rendition, Wik. states this, "Several independent groups have verified that the car in the film never reaches past 140km/h(85mph)" When you take a close look at the video I would have to agree with a top speed of maybe 85mph. Claude's using a little "creative license" there. Oh well, it's still cool if you believe the fantasy. :)
