I mean the racing inheritance - I know its a street car Its still built to be raced - thats what Ferrari is all about, right?
Seems this has to do with ferrari's F430 airbag issue with the DOT. So it does only affect US cars, i suppose.
Its probably actually so that they can sell you them in the after market for much more than than the option originally cost Same BS that we get from Porsche on GT3, no race seats.
This should NOT affect Euro cars in ANYWAY. You guys don't have to put up with the DOT, EPA, etc. That's why we have slower cars and ugly turn signals.
Racing seats are not great for resale anyway. I wonder if this will change the desirability of a pre 9/06 430 that has them? Probably won't do much for resale. Based on this then it makes sense that a CS won't have them either that or there will be no CS for US. Or, maybe a watererd down version like the GT3 as someone said. Hmm, there has to be some work around although maybe it just isn't worth it. Afterall, F has to play ball here because they've been granted this exemption in the first place.
I'd say 1 out of every 20 cars get ordered with racing seats. So the amount of people wanting them in the pre-owned world will coincide with supply.
Don't you mean collide? If 1 in 20 get ordered with racing seats and all of a sudden they aren't available anymore then that 5% will find them hard to get so in theory possibly increasing demand for cars with it. Not to mention that people always want what they can't have or get, so that could double the number of people wanting racing seats, in pre-owned anyway.
Still waiting on source (got a link to that memo? Or a scan?) And secondly, I cannot see why these racing seats can't be modified to accomodate the "LATCH" system. What about other manufacturers - i.e. Porsche? I'm sure the upcoming GT3 (which as we all know will be ocming to the US also) uses some sort of similar racing seats. I don't see this option being removed on the F430 at all.

Very nice mate. Id have to sell my 1st born son to be able to afford them, but they are very nice none-the less.
Such a deal!! I still don't get why the CF racing seats can't be adapted to comply? Just figure out how to attach the f'n latch.
The original Ferrari memo on the seat belt exemption was posted here a few months ago, and the dispute was about a ...."5 percentile out-of-position female" or some such thing,,, not meeting the sensor requirements for the smart air bags. ...several pages of techno-legal babble based on classification types of passengers according to standard sizes and positions. Ferrari's claim was that it was not possible to meet all of the regs, in a car based onthe 360 designed before the regs were proposed. This result, (if it is true) is probably part of the final settlement to continue the limited exemption. Just a hunch. Find it an read it and it will probably make sense.
I assume you speak of the 430 CS that will eventually come out... It's just stupid American regulations...and it will probably inhibit the market for a 430 CS in the states. Ferrari probably won't sell it here then if all of this is true. That's a major letdown for American consumers. But if that happens, I bet you'll end up seeing the very well-heeled customers going over to Europe, buying a 430 CS, and importing the car to the US. Time will tell.
Sorry you don't believe me. I will not post any official memo from Ferrari. If they wanted their memo to be made public, it would be made public. Maybe there is a way to modify them, however I am betting that it would not be worthwhile by Ferrari since racing seats are so seldomly ordered. Yes, what about them? What bearing do other manufacturers have on Ferrari? It is completely irrelevant. I do notice you are from Toronto..............this memo may not affect Canadian cars at all
