What's the deal with Zonda's in the US?

AMG could build a production engine without turbo’s specifically for Pagani, if they desire. I personally would like to see Pagani design their own engine, but who knows if that will ever happen.

 

Well... Even Koenigsegg did that. The new CCX has a "homebuilt" engine. So who knows... Maybe H.P. might consider that.

 

I've read that the successor will be powered by the twin-turbo 6.0L V12, but then in the same magazine they've said Horacio thinks that any more power/torque would be worthless as they get 3rd gear wheel spin with the current engine.

Buoyed by the introduction of AMG's first in-house-designed engine - the terrific 6.3-litre normally-aspirated V8 - Mornhinweg candidly outlined AMG's future plans to evo when we attended the launch of the new CLK 63 AMG model (see page 48).

'This version of our new engine is just the start,' promises Mornhinweg. 'We have designed it with so much potential.'

The development to which Mornhinweg alludes is a 600-650bhp twin-turbo version which could be with us by 2008, fitted to the next-generation CL first, with other models to follow.

Don't be too surprised if the biturbo V8 also finds its way into the back of a Pagani either, as Mornhinweg is a big fan of the independent supercar company: 'Horacio Pagani is a great man, and while the Zonda isn't a big part of our business, I think it's very important for our engineers to be involved in such a special project.'

 

I am not a fan of turbos... But, if that engine has so much potential...

 

Anyway, a V12 is a V12... I prefer this type of engine for the new Zonda.

I agree no turbo needed. I don’t see it fitting into the Pagani way of doing things.

 

I was just looking at the floorplan for Top Marques Monaco 2007 in April (here, it's not complete yet), and I noticed that Pagani will have the stand right near the entrance. I wonder if they'll be highlighting a new model .

The amg twin turbo engine has already been approved for U.S use. For a small manufacturer like Pagani, it would be extremely cost prohibitive for both amg and pagani to develop a specific new engine for it or even to homologate the current engine which is not legal. Most likely if anything, amg would use the v-12 engine from the chrysler super car for pagani which they have already developed... Now that would be a thought as AMG's informal answer to the veyron.

 

But the fact is... They do not want to reply to the Veyron.

Or worst, replicate the same errors of the Bugatti group.

I know Horacio's way of thinking too well and i am sure he will not produce a car with 1000+ bhp, and very very heavy.

I can honestly say he shares a lot with Gordon Murray.

Horacio' goal is to produce a more significant U.S. legal car, not the competition. Anyone can build a car to match the Bugatti, but why?

Probably the 2008 new motor will be more powerful than the actual Clubsport version (i think approx. 700-730 CV), and the car a lot lighter than the Zonda F.
I heard it might reach the weight/power ratio of a MC12 Corsa... Which is impressive.

 

Hopefully it doesnt have a Turbo.

 

I dont think by having a twin turbo version of the car would necessarily= heavier weight. I agree that pagani is keen to be similar in weight and peformance to Murray's F1, but from the perspective of having an easier replacement engine than the current 12 that definitely will not pass emissions... Not to mention that U.S bumper and safety laws would mandate a heavier weight... All those are hurdles that have prevented the zonda to be here in the first place. And if Pagani does want to enter the U.S market, the mandatory laws means added weight will require bigger hp. I dont think that pagani wants the heavier weight, but reality of U.S homologation is unavoidable.

Thankyou. You should go and pick his brain a bit to figure out what he intends to do for the U.S cars... It would be interesting what he has in mind and we can all end this speculation.

 

I have silently been following this thread tridente and thanks for the info! I cant wait to see Zonda's here in the US personally. I am trying to get someone I know into getting one if and when they do come here. A car with a power to weigh ratio of the Maserati Corsa for the road is extremely harsh to drive I would assume, I am wondering if Pagani will stick with a manual transmission for the successor to the Zonda F?

Ok. Back home with some important news:
yes, the white/blue Zonda F is still there, Caiola often comes to Italy so he prefers to keep it there. Horacio was allowed by Caiola himself to drive that for the Monaco tour.

There were a silver/red RHD Zonda F on a final stage of assembly, VIN #76066, and a red/beige F LHD with VIN #76068.
Plus, they were showing the Roadster F #2 of 25, Enciu's car, and there was another carbonfiber/red Roadster F ready to be delivered to an italian collector, and that's the one i experienced, #5 of 25 (my holy God what a monster!!!).

Caiola's F will not be the only pearl white Zonda F, a Roadster is on the way to be produced, this time with black interiors.

And now, most important.
Yes, 2008 will be THE YEAR. They already have decided the shape of the future car, and in september they'll start to develope the car, the engine, the chassis and everything else. These are the only things that Mrs Pramazzoni told me: everything else is unknown, Pagani Automobili is like a fortress, like the Area 51...

I am now downloading the pics of my trip. No pics allowed inside the assembly facility (only in the showroom), but i took some pics as a passenger (not as a driver, 'cause my camera's battery died )

 

And i am still daydreaming while i'm adjusting and resizing some of the pics...
