my dad, who lurks this site, won't post this so I will; Rear Admiral (ret), SC, USN. Bought the 500 Mondial (see avatar and profile) in 1960 as a Lt. jg. Danang in 65-66. Ret in 88. Joined the FCA in 62 - same year I was born.

I have to add that my impression growing up was that the amateur racing scene in the 60s and 70s had a lot of military presence - before it got so damned expensive. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of SCCA autocrosses at Hickam AFB in Hawaii in the late 60s.

Thank you! That sounds really nice. I'll be contacting you shorty after me and Simon get together then. That's cool about growing up in Pensacola, did you like it there? Will I be having fun? LOL.

I will send you one as soon as I get down there and situated. You can expect to hear from me around October 15-16. Thank you.

Graduated high school in 3 years so I joined the Marines at 17. I'm a farm boy and at one point my family had 7! kids in college so the benefits really helped out.

I also went to A-school at the Pen - MOS 6112 - CH-46 crew chief, amazing what the military will let a 19 y.o. kid do.

I really feel the military gave me focus and a work ethic I would not have otherwise. We hire alot of young kids for entry level floor jobs - runners, trade checkers, ect. and there is a huge difference in the kids that have served.

Although at MCRD San Diego I was the only one that thought 4:45 revelie was sleeping in because I was used to getting up at 4:15 to milk the cows!
