I spoke with them today and all looks good for an August 25th grand opening!! Gokarting is going to be back in Ft Lauderdale and hopefully we can get better turn out there than we were able to do at Mega Racing in Opa Locka. Xtreme Indoor Karting is located in the same location that Speed Indoor Karting was, at I-95 and Commercial Blvd. and a lot more convenient to a lot more people. For me (and a few others) it will probably take longer to get there there than Mega Racing but having an indoor location again will allow us to go on a more regular basis without having to worry about weather. I'll keep checking back with them and if anything changes with their schedule I'll let you know.

Sweet. Is there a planned interval (monthly???) to go karting there? I would like to give it a try. Maybe I can get a yellow helmet or something, so everyone can give me some space while learning the ropes.

This is good news. I much prefer Opalocka, but the weather has been brutal all summer, the "indoor" part is what entices me.

    Count me in.

Sounds good and it's about time they got that place opened up. Looking forward to see what the track layout is going to be. Hopefully we can get the old gang back together along with new karters as well!

Me too! I used to occasionally drive by the abandoned mall were the famous "mall" scene (car sliding upside down) was shot. Also my brother lives about ten minutes away from Joliet (Jake).

I got a call today and was informed that Xtreme is open for business starting TODAY!! The are operating cash only and the bar, concessions and video games are not up and running yet, just the gokarts. A few of us went over and tried out the karts tonight. The track is a lot of fun and there are a couple of really challenging corner sets. They will be open from 3 pm to 11 pm daily until their grand opening and running 8 minute sessions only. I'm sure we'll get a group back there sometime early next week as well, stay tuned.

Also, I spoke to them about memberships and they will give us a 10% discount on the initial membership fee of $49 (not much but something) if we all register at once and exeed 20 people. PM me if you want to be included in this.

    Andy,

What's included in the membership, and are we going to head there after the August 3rd dinner at Chammps by chance? Might have you include me in the group to become members.

They made a huge effort to professionalize. I know it's new and that has something to do with it but just walking in you feel like you're in a much nicer place than before. They have the real plastic barriers around the track like moroso has rather than a bunch of old tires banded together, the track is blacktop, the karts have the engine in the very rear (and low) not the side so there is almost no chance of an accidental burn. Overall, I was very impressed with the new place. They have a few kinks to work out still...under caution, they have a switch they can throw that slows the karts down for safety but several times when they turned it off not all the karts were restored to full power. Nothing major and I'm sure they'll get it worked out.

Andy is right about the over all feeling of the new place. I feel like owner/management know what they are doing and have run indoor tracks before. They have some new rules for kids under 16 that have to take a liscensing course before they get in the kart, which should eliminate some of the stupid kids from going out there and playing bumper karts. They also have more than one cash register so there should not be as long of a wait to pay for sessions. Over all it appears that the new place is a major improvement over Speed. The real question is how the karts hold up and how well they maintain them, but supposedly the new karts are much stronger than the old ones that were used at Speed, but only time will tell on that one.

Yes you are on the list I have. The 3rd would be a good time to get a bunch of people over there for sure. I'm always game for karting.

The membership gives you discounted rates on the sessions, usually about $5/session plus a free 8 min session when you join and a free 8 min session on your birthday. I'm sure there will be some promos and such as well, just not sure what they'll be.
