Funny nobody has thought about the USD to Euro exchange rate at $1.265. What the hell, just throw it on a credit card!

Boy, this thread sure turned into a drag without that Matteo saying anymore goofy things after coming off his ban. I had alot of fun reading on this thread. But without fuel, no fire. Goodbye thread, thanks for the memories and a few laughs. Love that back at the factory photo!!!

Maybe he will find another Boxer to restore?????

Quite the thread, controversy aside I would like to hear Ferrari SPAs response

What some don't realize with a Ferrari SPA restoration is that some parts are just no longer available at any price, the manufacturers Ferrari used at the time are gone and so is the tooling, would they go to the hassle to make a repro part for 1 restoration? I don't think its a possibilty, so the factory restoration would fail miserably at the Concours since the screw heads are the wrong size and color along with everything else Ferrari did with the car.

Ferrari Spa of course would say we did today what we did back then and used what was available in the parts bins. Just pull out your certified certificate to give to the judges and see what the response is along with your $150k reciept from Ferrari, I am sure it will work.

Their restoration service literature says they will. In some conversations I had with Malcolm West of Ferrari.uk, a large amount of the drawings & tooling still exists.

I know that fasteners are big with the Corvette concours crowd, but since when have Ferrari Concours started nit-picking fastners? They're not on the concours judging guidelines that I've been using.

I have been asking Malcom for some very in demand BB parts NLA such as turn signal lenses, yes they can remake them but its not cost effective to run 300 parts to sell 50 over 10 years, the same with other parts and BB owners will pony up for the expensive parts prices, how many are willing to pay $1500 for a set of turn signals on a 308?

Believe me a survivor garage queen with original fasteners will win everytime over a car with the wrong color anodized fasteners and size Ferrari SPA restored or not.

I purchased a fully restored '84 308 QV earlier this year. The restoration took place in a mid-west restoration shop and cost $54,000. The restoration consisted of a full bare metal up restoration and a complete new interior. I received full documentation and pictures of the rebuild when it was purchased. I did not pay anywhere near the cost of restoration. So I bought a near flawless example of a 308. Now there is the reality of owning a car like this. I drive the 308 weekly. I have noticed several minor scratches on the nose. So I wonder is a full bare metal restoration worth it if the car is used and will it will never be a garage queen?

Matt have you received a reply from the factory yet? Are you still considering going this route with the repairs?

    $70/hr. ?

Hmmm... I got the borchure too, but (and it's sitting here next to me :p ) "La certificazione", seems a little silly for a GT4.

However... with the current prices of any factory Ferrari being what they are, I have to wonder, "What might it do to the value of twenty-thousand dollar Ferrari, to have it factory restored to new condition"?

And... Do they turn the speedometer back to zero?

I know here in California, that a "re-built" car that meets certain criteria and specifications can be re-sold as a "new" car, with the odometer set back to zero. I remember there were a few companies doing that to BMW's (1600's and 2002's) back in the 80's.

In the end though, I guess it depends on the market and the buyers. Although it is fun to think about. ;)

I got a call from Adam at Ferrari USA last Thursday and he requested additional pictures and a list of things I wanted done and confirmed the labor rate was about $70-78 after exchange.

The Factory looked at the pictures yesterday based on the web states from my website.

I'm in a holding pattern now.

Matt, did you see the article in the new Autoweek about the Ferrari Restoration program? A guy was having a 3.3 V12 built for his 275 GTB. As you stated in the prior posts, the price that they are charging for restoration seems quite reasonable with the quotes in the Good Ol USA.

In 84 on my vacation I was able to the Porsche Factory and I was able to
pay for trip with a suitcase full of parts I bought at the factory. I asked
what they charged to replace a water pump on a 1979 928, they said $300.
I asked for the pump? They said pump and instal. My dealer wanted a $1000.
    I did it myself.

But you still have to get the car there and back. Still I would do it if I won the Powerball Lottery.

I don't want to comment on the yarn spinning accusations.

This thread has brought up a good discussion on value both financial and personal. To me the 308/328 with the right wheels and corrected stance (lowering slightly the rear and a little more the front) is the best looking car in the history of the world...'nuff said.

If you love the car that much that you'd spend that kinda coin just to have the car near perfect and done by the factory that built it originally it's not about finances but love.

I know what it is to have a good car that loses some it's enjoyment because of lots of odds and ends that don't quite work right or are cosmetically just not right. Every time you get in a car like that you notice the worn leather or the hood latch that you gotta play with to open or the suspension thats just a little too soft and squeeky or the molding thats dried out and has wax residue permanantly inbeded in it, etc.

Often repairs like re-dyeing and repainting turn out ok but still don't give the look you want ( the dye looks fake or the orange peel isn't right kinda things). It leaves an unsatisfied feeling.

Wouldn't it be nice to have all those little things fixed at once by the factory?

Sure you could buy a more expensive F car for the same money but if the the 308 is the one you love then there is no substitute.

I could see spending the money..that's what i'm saying.
