I agree anything can happen in the next few races. I would at lease like to see a challenge at the end for the fans sake.

Does MS have a chance? OF COURSE!!!!

That chance depends on Ferrari, they must consistantly be the "best of the rest." Alonso will get his share of bad luck, it is a motorsports LAW that sooner or later it is just not your day, be it crash or mechanical failure. When that happens, MS must be in position to take the win. If he starts spitting points with other teams then it is all over.

Good thing this is an "off" week.
Can you imagine the atmosphere at Ferrari during the Germany-Italy world cup match? ;)

Never been to a soccer game, so I can't say. But it does work like a charm for F1 races.

I'd like to say that MS has a chance, but's it's looking less realistic at each race, if Renault dominated in France then i'd say it's over. The only ways I could see MS coming out on top would be if Bridgestone magically made a great tire, or if FA starts running into walls or other cars run into him.

I'd love to see the FIA ban driver aides next season, I think that would make every race a million times more interesting.

Renault will dominate at Magny Cours, you can count on that, but I swear if there is one thing I have learned in my years of watching motorsports, it is that everyone eventually has a bad day. As long as Schumacher can capitalize on that, this championship is still alive.

Italy vs France in world cup, then a week later, Renault vs Ferrari at Mangy Corpse.

Geez, life is like a bad hollyweird film.
    How depressing.

Jason, I hope "dominate" isn't the operative word in France. I am optimistic the gap is being closed by Ferrari/Bridgestone. You have a good point about a "bad day" - just as long as its Renault who has one...

Sorry, I slept through that one, but didn't I do a good job in the previous game?

Or as a friend of mine once put it: The real goal of any World Cup is that Germany looses. :)

Realistically? No, but i will if Alonso doesn't finish within the top 5 positions in the next race or two. I hope Schuey can do it though, i think how close he gets to Alonso in points this season, championship or not will influence his decison heavilly wether or not to race next season.

Probably not, but there's always a chance. It's really up to the Ferrari TEAM to make his car better. Bottom line, with an equal car/pit crew, Michael will beat Alonso. The question is, will it be enough at this point.

Here's hoping to several Alonso DNFs!!

So now down to 12 pts..anyone change their minds?

If Schu could pull it off, would it be the time to pull the plug...greatest comeback of all time, go out on top, etc...

The F1 season has turned into a pretty interesting one...no?

As much as I'd like to see MS go on, if he does win #8 , he should retire on top, not go out like Michael Jordan or many other ex-champions.Take a lesson from Lance Armstrong.

    My thoughts exactly.

Anyone here think FA ISN'T a little worried right now? Of course he is. Why? Because he could still finish second and he knows it. Let him continue to sit on his ass and see what happens...

Absolutely. Hungary will determine if this can go all the way. If Ferrari and MS win again, the championship is within reach.

With the current test freeze Renault cannot test new Michelin tires. Hungary will be just as hot as Hockenheim, so I expect another Ferrari runaway train. A similar story will be in Turkey and so after Turkey I expect MS in the lead.

I'm a bit disappointed about Alonso's performance because he is even falling behind Fisico. He needs to get off his laurels if he wants to win this.

    I think it's 11 points (FA 100, MS 89).

And it's 10 points in the constructor race (149 to 139)

FA was behind Fisico because he was also on the second engine cicle and in an earlier evolution too. Fisico had a new engine with more horsepower at Germany. All adds to the result.

Renault claimed it was all a tires issue, but some people here think they might have something else going on at that race on FA car. On Qualyfing FA rev counter on Spanish TV never went over 19000 rpm, while Fisi reached the 20.000. I know that is not very accurate but nevertheless there was that difference. And that was at qualifing, so maybe at the race they were even running lower on FA's car? I think Renault put very little wing on FA car to compensate for the lost performance and that did not work out, the fact that the tires did not work either just made it worst.

    - Julio.

I don't think there is any question that if any driver can come back from being behind so far its Michael Schumacher.
