    Hey Walter

On the 166 - I was thinking 6 cylinder Dino GP car but the frame suggested the width of a dueposti. But I was misled by the 6 pipes on the exhaust manifold - pardon my ignorance - shouldnt there be 12 little pipes - one for each cyl?

I could be just as ignorant, but I believe it is one pipe per bank, not cylinder.

Ferrari was banned one year from racing; so through Luigi Chinetti, he was able to enter Ferraris to race...

PS My answer for the 166/manual picture was a total, 100% crapshoot guess... After I saw Daniel's answer, I muttered something under my breath that I can't type here... The fact that I was right is pure luck...

North American Racing Team, Chinetti was previously a salesman...., inspired by Indy racing at the time?

    Hey, Vur...

I was wondering the same thing... I thumbed through some pictures here on my computer, hoping to find a match... I was scared to specify and say 166 Spyder Corsa or 166 MM, so I'm glad I was vague about it... I noticed a difference in the engine from my pictures to the one Townshend posted and wondered the same thing as you...

    Townshend...?

    Sorry long answer -

On the origins of the word NART: the 'RACE OF GIANTS' coined by Luigi Chinetti to enter the world of GT racing as the North American Racing Team.

    Quoting from Wikipedia:

"The Nart sagas are a series of tales originating from the Caucasus Mountains. They form the basic mythology of the tribes in the area; some are simply stories, but some have value as creation myths and ancient theology.

The Abkhaz, Circassians, Ossetians and the Ubykh all have versions of the Nart sagas.

The Narts themselves are a race of giants.

Some motifs in the Nart sagas are shared by Greek mythology. The story of Prometheus chained to Mount Kazbek in particular is similar to an element in the Nart sagas. These shared motifs are seen by some as indicative of an earlier proximity of the Caucasian peoples to the ancient Greeks, also shown in the myth of the Golden Fleece, in which Colchis is generally accepted to have been part of modern-day Georgia or Abkhazia.

Additionally, the philologist Georges Dumézil used the division of the Narts into three clans to support his Trifunctional Hypothesis that the Proto-Indo-Europeans were similarly divided into three castes—warriors, priests, and commoners. (Implicit in this argument is the assumption that this aspect of the Nart sagas was derived from the Ossetians, as the other peoples among whom the sagas are shared are non-Indo-European.)

In the book From Scythia to Camelot, authors C. Scott Littleton and Linda A. Malcor speculate that many aspects of the Arthurian legends are derived from the Nart sagas. The proposed vector of transmission is the Alans—the ancestors of the Ossetians—some of whom migrated into northern France at around the time the Arthurian legends were forming."

NART or North American Racing Team was founded by Ferrari importer Luigi Chinetti, George Arents, Jan de Vroom and possibly a few others. The name was inspired by a North American Van Lines truck.

Hey now, quoting from Wikipedia is just cheating! ;)

Actually, were we allowed to search the 'net or whatever before answering?

First of all, I assume you are talking about ONLY Grands prix that counted towards the drivers/constructors World Championship, as there are lots of races named Grand Prix.

I have nine (not eight) years in which Scuderia Ferrari only scored one victory in such races:

    1955
    1960
    1963
    1968
    1972
    1984
    1988
    1994
    1995

There is also a fair sprinkling of years in which Ferrari won NO RACES!

Here's one for the real trivia experts.

What brand of tire did Luigi Chinetti credit for his win in the 1951 Carrera Panamericana?
