Thanks to Jack(LA) for this tip! Mother's Billet Polish works extremely well. What a huge difference! I used a Dremel (set at low speed) with a flex shaft and a felt polishing tip to do all of the heavy polishing. This is the result after spending only 15 minutes and 5 light applications of polish. I found that applying the final application of polish by hand leaves a perfect, streak free, glossy finish. Before you do this you should generously mask the area with a very low tack painter's tape and cover the rear of the car with a car cover. There tends to be a little bit of overspray from the tool so these extra precautions will protect the paint. The 2nd tip in the background is the original discolored and ugly unpolished aluminum for comparison. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I must say those tips look great. They look like chromed Tubi's As for my results, I can definitely say that for very little effort and time spent, the worst part of the stock car has been improved substantially. You do need something a little bit more abrasive for the tip inserts so I'm going to try a light wire brush to get more of the shine out!
Go to Home Depot and get 3M Blue Painters Tape. It is extremely gentle, and couldn't pull the wings off a flea. -d
I used Painter's Mate "Delicate" masking tape. This stuff barely has any adhesive on it. It works great and comes off perfectly clean. http://www.thegreentape.com/products/detail.asp?catid=63&subid=155&plid=616
wet sand it with 2k gritt sand paper then polish it, when your done clean it with acetone. If you have any grease or fingerprints and its gets heated up uncleaned they will stain the tips.
