I haven't been able to access the site for 5 days now. I discovered the site over a month ago and had no problems viewing it up until now.

I'm on Telstra cable, using a Compex NetPassage 15 B router with auto settings. Network card is onboard, by Intel.

I asked various people with different connections to try accessing the site, and the only person who had the same problem as me was another person in Adelaide, also using Telstra cable.

Any idea why my ISP would suddenly cause me to be unable to view the site?

    Page loading... page loading...

    Then about 10 seconds later:

    "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    .....blah blah blah....

Cannot find server or DNS Error
    Internet Explorer"

I've been getting this for days and I don't understand why.

    Still not working.

I ran a trace route with VisualRoute 2006, and it connects okay for the first 24 hops.

Once it gets to the 25th hop, there is 40% signal loss, and the connection fails.

The details for this hop are:

    IP Address: 64.182.192.5
    Node Name: 5-192-182-64.cust.propagation.net
    Location: Bedford, TX, USA
    Network: C I Host CIHS

    Just sent propagation.net an email.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

My traceroute craps out at the same place, but nasaspaceflight.com loads pretty much instantly when I tried it (using Comcast cable connection from the Chicago area).

Maybe this is on a different server, but it has always worked for me: http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/shuttle/

Maybe your computer is crazy. :)

Edit: Holy crap, your link worked! I had no idea Atlantis was already on the pad!!! I must see this one closer this time!

I'm sure you know this by now, but nasaspaceflight.com is not run by NASA or any part of the US Government.

BTW, Atlantis is scheduled to launch on STS-115 on August 27, with the window closing September 7. Main objective is ISS assembly.

Hmm, interesting. Perhaps it's just a firewall stuffing up the traceroute?

Hmm...interesting the gov't hasn't tried to make that site change their name. It's pretty deceptive imo. Nearly the same url as the one I posted. Btw, it's working for me so it's probably a firewall setting like you said.

You think you'll be in town for the launch?

It's a great site, with alot of NASA and other space program employees on the forum. I don't think they mind the name. ;)

Nope. It's a bit of an expense to fly half way around the world just to see the launch. Plus, they're always aborted, so it could end up launching on the last day of the window. That means I'd have to book almost two weeks to make sure I didn't miss it.

However, I want to see at least a few shuttle launches before they're retired in 2010. I was last in Florida in 2003, about 8 months after Columbia...

No problems with Comcast in SE Michigan. Not to get too off topic, but you say that the 'window' closes for launch on September 7th. I hear this all the time on CNN, Fox and other news networks when they talk about manned space missions. What exactly is this 'window'? Is it a manmade timeline? Is it something in the way the earth is tilted/rotating? PM me if this is too off topic as I am really interested.
