I noticed on my 328 that the hood was over to one side enough to rub the hoods edge on the cars body. Does anyone know how to realign the rear hood. I am not sure do you just loosen the bolts holding the hood on and then tighten more to the side with the larger gap? Will I run into trouble with the trunk latches after a alignment.

    Thanks for al lyour help

I think shims are used on either side to adjust for lateral fit.

Usually, it's because one side of the lid is more "forward" (at rest position) than the other. I don't remember ever seeing shims to take up the slop between the hinge and the lid, but I may be wrong. We spend a LOT of time aligning engine lids on the 308/328 after major services or carb work, and it's pretty easy with two or three folks and thick padding on the very uppermost, forward edge to prevent damage to the roof. The hinge captive nuts in the lid are widely adjustable and if you can identify the original position of the "top hat" nuts indented on the hinge, you can put it back close to original without screwing around. Just be patient.

After aligning the 308 & 328 boot lid to the body, the factory drilled a pair of small (~3/16) alignment holes thru the hinge & it's mounting surface. They make re-allignment pretty easy.

Locate a pair of small phillips screwdrivers(Craftsman #1 I think is what I used), or a pair of drill bits that are a tight fit in the hole in the hinge.

Put padding(I use heavy fender protectors) between the boot lid butresses & the body, & along each edge of the boot-body mating line. Then loosen the bolts for 1 hinge, visually line up a hole with the matching one in the boot lid & insert the screwdriver. repeat for the other hole. Then do the same for the other side. This almost always properly aligns the boot lid, or gets the alignment close enough so small changes will fine tune the alignment.

One person can do this, but it's safest done with 3: 1 on each hinge, and one at the rear.
