    Hey all,

So I/we (the wife) have been getting the new car bug . . . the P car suggestion has come up frequently (ahhhhh!). Other option is to sell the 308 and get a 355 (which I'd make time for the maintenance) or a 360 (maybe still a stretch).

Car is red/tan '81 308 GTSi . . . close to 90K probably on chassis, odometer broke. The new motor has 10.5:1 comp, Webcams with .400 lift, new valvetrain (Ti retainers, etc.), and a Haltech E6 ECU . . . I posted pic's of the fuel injection set up a while back on a "CIS conversion" thread. I'll be getting her dyno'd here shortly.

I'd like to sell it with the old motor which burned a valve and the gearbox which had nothing wrong with it but leaks. I also have all the old CIS components, extra bell housing, flywheel, etc.

    The whole package might only be worth $25K . . . maybe that's even high, I really don't know . . . feedback please!!!

If I keep the 308 and end up having to get a P car, I guess things could be worse (don't know how yet, ha ha), but please give generously if you are so inclined!!!! Don't force me into P car ownership!!!

As always, thanks for the feedback!!!

unknown mileage pushing 90K miles , non original engine and trans , non original fuel injection. Not to be insulting but I'm thinking mid to high teens.

Spare engine and all that great work done? $25K!!!

These are driver's cars and most won't give a damn about a "non-original" engine. They aren't number matching anyway in 308s. Not to take anything away from the folks who treat their 308s like a SuperAmerica, but a good portion of 308 owners have them to drive hard, take to the track and show off a little.

A 308 is also typically a first-timer's entrée to the brand, and these people are less hung-up about a wing nut being out of place than they are about getting a fair, awesome car at decent price. You make a Ferrari-value statement in your own post: you associate buying a Porsche with compromise! This is what makes Ferraris so special and their value so high.

Sure, the marketplace may not agree, but I would stand proudly and not take a dime less than $25K for such a package. Maybe the market might just move up to you (eventually).

Frankly, i'd ask for $30k as MANY 308 guys are seeking to actually USE THEIR CARS and your upgrades are excellent for that. The mods you made are much needed and make the car more modern, not stock lackluster compression and other bits. The extra engine alone is worth a few $grand alone.

As i recall, one Fchatter modded his 308 quite a bit for extensive track use and it sold for $70k. As i recall, he went dry sump, uprated brakes and other bits as well. Your price of $25k is solid IMHO. As long as you have receipts and the work was done by a reputable mechanic you should be fine.

    Just my humble 2 Yen.

Question: do you know her numbers from a Dyno after the upgrades? Just curious.

PS: the Porsche Cayman S will eat a normal 308 for breakfast and only be 1/2-way through the meal. Probably beat a 348 and get close to a 355.

A complete rat is worth high teens. Your car with all that work done is def worth 25k, provided it was done well, especially when you also retained the original engine. Dont buy a P-car

Thanks everyone for the input . . . I'm going to do some autoX'g with the local P club just to see how well she stacks up and I will have some dyno numbers hopefully in the next few weeks . . . had an '04 996 which felt like a boat compared to the 308 . . . 308 just lacked the power.

Don't want to get off on a P vs. F debate, I just am getting tempted by "warranty" (which P threatened to void before when I was tracking my old car . . . wouldn't do any "competition" events with new P car though . . . just buying it to "fluff" around on public roads) and COLD a/c . . . even if the "purist" 308 market forces me to the dark side, the F car will still have P1 in the stable!!!

    Very cool.

Let us know what you end up doing. I wouldn't hold it against you if you did buy a P car (your $ gets you a lot more mph in the P world than in the F world).

Post the dyno #'s when you get them. I'm very interested.

According to the last issue of Cavallino, the 80-82 308 GTSi has a price range of $23,500 to $60,000. The lower price is for cars in poor general condition, which this car obviously is not. There are those cars out there for sale in the teens, but they are few and far between and generally are parts cars. $30K does not sound unreasonable, especially when your throwing in the original block and gearbox for spares.

You may be dissapointed in the auto crossing with the 308. It is a heavy car compared to a 911 not as nimble. On a road course the 308 shines, nice balance, but like you said, could use some more HP.

BTW, what you have there is a great "drivers car" and well worth the 25k. You've done to it what should be done to ALL of the GTSi's.

    I've won a few autox's with mine....springs/shocks/tires make a BIG BIG difference.

Get the car dyno'd. It should be a strong engine, I'd guess 220ish rwhp. That will be a big selling point. 328hp at a 308 price is a good thing.

Split the spare engine, gear box, CIS, ingnition and any other spare parts you have and sell them separatly, you will get a lot more money out in the end.

If the car looks good and makes 200+ rwhp, you should be able to get 25 for it. If it looks great and makes 220+, maybe closer to 30. The spare stuff has got to bring another 3, probably more...I sold my CIS stuff for over 1000 alone a few years ago.
