Are ferrari key copies something that any locksmith can do if you bring them an uncut key, or does it need to be done at or by a dealer? Anyone have any experience with this? I'm referring to the ones with the bulky ferrari shape to them.

No locksmith in my neighborhood would touch the blank OEM Ferrari keys I had because they didn't want to take the chance of ruining a tool on a blank that was of unknown material and properties to them. Ferrari of New England had a locksmith with whom they deal make the duplicates for me.

Thats right!!! They are made of a space age material that will blunt every key cutting tool in the world. :p
I got my 348 key cut here by the local locksmith. Too easy. :)

For my 328 the local locksmith cut it by hand with a file. Got it right on the first shot. Charged me $2. Gotta love the guys with 20+ years experience.

Most Ferrari keys are steel, not brass, so locksmiths are hesitant to cut them, as they dull their tools. That and the fact that the blanks are so damn expensive...as mentioned they don't often want the risk for a $2 to $4 job...

Find the best locksmith you can - hand the locksmith your key without telling him what itunlocks. He'll find a blank - in my case, he made a dupe set for me from a Puegot or a Renault blank - I forget which. It was a Euro blank, not a Ferrari blank.

If you have the original, and wnt to make a spare, do it yourself.

Takes a few minutes with a dremel.

I've done mine a couple of times, even once on an ORIGINAL NEIMAN blank (GASP) that cost me $100.00.

Just practive on a cheapo one, and it's a piece of cake. Clamp the two keys together firmly, and duplicate the pattern using a grinding disk. Nuttin' to it.
