Ah! Making him the equal of Valentino Rossi!

 

There is no question Michael Schumacher would make a short list of the greatest drivers ever, but to proclaim one as the very best, I dont think its possible. just my opinion.

F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports... The day Rossi wins 8 F1 world championships he will be better than Michael.

As for now... Michael Schumacher is the greatest racer ever!

 

I love F1 but you are out of your mind if you think it is the only racing venue that matters. It takes an exteme command of the nuiances of different racing venues to be able to compete and win in each and every one of them. Every one is different and if you are not proficient in all of them then you are a one trick pony. Mario won in every racing venue. When MS or whomever wins in F1, Indy 500, Nascar, and on and on and on like Mario then you can add that person to the same list as Andretti. To be considered the best you have to win in every single racing style there is. That's Mario!!!!!!!!!!! AND THAT IS THE END OF THIS DISCUSSION. Get a clue. Hell get half a clue.

But Michael has always driven on 4 wheels. That means, while Rossi was racing he also had to focus on not tipping over. Michael had the benefit of not worrying about keeping his balance.

Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt both won the Nascar Championship 7 times. And that was against a lot more cars! Plus, they weren't afraid of the concrete walls and, if need be, could whoop yer ass.

 

That has got to be one of the most "elitest" declarations that I've seen on this board. ALL motorsports have their merrits and I don't think that there is one rational person on this board that truly shares that view.

Not only is your statement arrogant and idiotic...but delusional as well.

That's like saying that there is only ONE true religion.

 

I guess a guy like Mario Andretti, who won in F1, Indy Cars, NASCAR doesn't hold a candle to MS because he only has one WC?

 

I used to think little of Mario because his F1 title came in the all conquering ground effect Lotus. Quite frankly anybody could have won the title in that car (although that is not quite true if you think what happened later to his team mate). But as I learned more about Mario I realized the wide spectrum of racing he participated in successfully. That's really when I got impressed. WC titles aren't everything and the fact that years after his retirement from F1 the Scuderia in one of her darkest hours calls him back to the rescue speaks volumes for the man.

In a way Mario's F1 career reminds me a bit of Nigel's. They would have deserved the title years before they actually got it. When they finally got it, it was in a car that was just heads and shoulders above the rest.

 

Mario's Carreer and AJ Foyt... Look at his record (if AJ didn't win Mario did) Mario told me himself that AJ's constant drive and skill made Mario a better driver just trying to keep up to him
