Me again........ The old man is doing ok and he is on the mend. Im out for sure sorry lads. Count me in again for next year. Hope you boys have a good time and I will be looking forwards to all the pics and stories. Cheers again guys for your support. Rock on in 2006!
My mate got his engine apart yesterday and I helped with it a little today. The 2nd pot seized and the broken piston is the 4th. 4th cylinder bore is cracked into the water jacket. More like a nasty chunk is missing in there. Engine was full of water, hence the rust on the pistons. Engine f*cked big time. That is one of the nastiest broken pistons ive ever seen. He is going to try get a 2nd hand engine from a Jap wreckers. New block will cost too much. If the block wasnt cracked, then it may have been affordable to rebuild. looks like you were still hungry after eating your fingernails it's almost never financially sane to rebuild an engine, not just because by default it will cost around double what a replacement donk would, but because you have so many of those "oh while it's open" things that you do to it
Yep, especially diesel engines. Very very expensive. Costs around $5K-7K to rebuild a Toyota 1HZ engine and injector pump. Retail price of course. This, with new block, would be around $12-15K we reckon. Jap engine with a few km's on it, would be around $4K-5K at a wild guess. Hopefully for him anyways.....
Have a good one boys. Ill be thinking about ya's. Im going to sit in my 348 and make F1 engine sounds while pretending that im racing scud's 430 to 300km/h.......
Have fun, enjoy the drive and the company but most of all go home safely after it. I'm sure it will be a blast and I'm sorry I won't be there. Looking forward to the photos. Cheers
