and that was with a boot full of luggage, aircon running and room for 4!! .......................... A few more pics, the rest will follow once I get home tomorrow. The 612 Scag was some random that happened to be visiting the Rock at the same time, what are the chances of that!!! He picked it up on Thurs and has 3000kms on it already! VERY funny story to go with us meeting him....my foot in mouth disease struck. It will be good to have you join the team next year mate. You will have to get plenty of octane booster for the lovely 348 to keep up with the taxis. Actually, the best faux pas of the trip was in relation to the 612. We asked the driver of the 612 if he wanted to be part of the photo shoot but he said he wanted to keep a low profile. We passed this around between us on the radios. Anyway, the pax in the 612 came over to one of the lads for a chat and as he was there and about 18 inches away from the radio, one of the other rockers said "hey those guys in the 612 look like a couple of poofters. Talk about red faces! Eh, **** happens.
I've just got back home too, a sad moment. The weather out there was stunning, while back home its pissing and 16C. Lots of stories to tell but here are a few highlights for me: 1. Getting to drive the F430 and one of the M5's (Sepang Bronze one with Hartge kit). Being passenger is cool but its another thing to be in control of the car, even though I didn't push them to the speeds the owners were doing. We were at the petrol station when Roger threw me the keys and said take it back to the hotel. Ash and I hopped in and off we went.....some strange looks came our way from locals and also the M5 boys driving past. So huge thanks to both Roger and Pete for trusting me with their pride and joy. 2. scud turning up at the Cannonball run memorial and not even waiting for anyone to get out before turning around and lining up for the first race of the afternoon....very keen!! 3. The pace of the 997TT - AWESOME!! Sounds like crap and I'd pick a Ferrari/Lambo over it anyday but you gotta respect it. 4. Neville and Cheryls hospitality once again, great food and brilliant to watch the LP640/Veyron footage on the 60" plasma. Last night we went back to watch some of our own footage and look at photos from the weekend. 5. The fact we were sitting in cars doing 300kmh++ on public roads, amazing enough in itself really. After a while 200kmh just feels slow and you turn to games of "I Spy" to keep you amused. 6. Waynes back luck (not a highlight actually), firstly getting the windscreen damaged and then while waiting at the repair shop having a cyclist run into him and create more dents. More to come, my mind is all over the place. So a huge thankyou to all who participated this year, a great bunch of guys (and girl ) and can't wait to do it all again. Haha, this story changes everytime I hear it being told. When the 612 pulled up behind us at the entry to Ayers Rock I got out and asked him if he wanted to join the photoshoot. The answer was "no" but as Steve said the passenger then came back to me (sitting in the 996TT) and said they had changed their minds. He then walked up to the Lotus and leant in their window for a chat. At this stage scud (I think) in the F430 got on the radio and asked where they were from. I responded with "they look like a couple of poofters, so probably Victoria".....while he was still leaning into the Lotus who also had a CB....
well i got bored of alice (after going to see Miami Vice at the cinema at 10am) so i came to the airport 3 hours before my flight (still 1.5 hours away ) coz i thought i might get a perve on some space waitresses or something..... nothin here, i think there's maybe 4 people in the terminal. so, i'm just gonna keep pumping coins into this internet kiosk thing with far too many sneeze marks on the screen for my liking and wait for my flight back home to hopefully rainy adelaide. i got burnt pretty nicely on the first couple days here despite bathing in sunscreen, oh well.
...oh, another funny coincidence.... i got in the cab to come too thee ayeport and the cabbie goes "escaping huh?" so i chuckled and was like yeah can't wait to get home. he asks if i was here for a conference or something, and i tell him we were here with a bunch of sportscars to play around on the unlimited tarmac. he goes "oh you're with those guys are you?" so i'm asking if he'd seen us around... turns out he gave the ride to the MOTOR boys to go and pick up their shiny 997 and got the story on what was gonna go on from them. oh, i mentioned to him we were considering the idea of seeing if we could get part of the runway to play with for a while but we all sort of figgered it was a whimsical plan.... the cabbie tells me he knows the guy who owns/runs the place and said "mate, if you turned up with a slab of VB he'd probly let you have it for free... in fact he'd probly like to get some pics of your cars out there for his magazine".... he told me his name and stuff but i fergit, but anyhoo he said he was a top bloke who'd probly love to let us play out here. we'll keep that in mind for next year huh?
i took 1.7gig of photos so had to leave them on dingo's laptop so i won't get them until end of the week/early next week however i took them with dingo's old camera so they should be a bit better than what i come up with usually.
that was done sans-pax, dingo set him up with a mount camera for the vmax run. the second time i got airborne in a lambo i decided was my last attempt at personally trying to punch a hole in the atmosphere. as i said to mhh, if i could choose a cool way to die it would have to be at 300kph in a black lamborghini, but not just yet thanks.
Ash - I feel your pain! I'm feeling the pressure, just got a call from scud who is awaiting pics.....2.21Gb/900+ photos to sort through, so its gonna take time. What I might do is split the trip into 2 parts and therefore have 2 updates to my website rather than dumping them all into one.... I will start working on them VERY soon and do so late into tonight...
burnt mine yet??? i have an apartment inspection tomorrow and need to 'catch up' with the gf so i'm busy till thursday....
