I know its probably 115 on the pavement here in Dallas but the last couple of times I've driven the Testarossa it has gotted to the first mark past 195 (225 I believe), but remained around 195 at night unless "spirited driving" was invoked. I've checked the coolant, both radiator fans are functioning, alternator?-the light will stay on when its started for a few seconds and the blinkers make the radio lights dim? thermostats? water wetter? the oil temp climbed to 1/2 way up the dial as well, mind you, this took about 10 miles stop and go. I pulled off, turned car off for a minute, started back up and temp was down, then climbed again. Should I stop parking it next to my Jaguar, has it caught the dreaded English car in Texas Overheaties?

Does that mean just the (cold) level in the expansion tank or that condition plus confirming that liquid coolant comes out at the three bleed locations? It's about the only other thing to check.

When it gets to the mid-high 90's here, I notice that my long-term idle without forward motion goes from an indicated 195 to 195 plus a needle width (but the thin air here reduces the heat transfer).

I replaced the thermal switch on top of the radiator on mine. The fan was not coming on until 235 degrees. They tend to erode in function rather than just stop working. 158655 SWITCH/TEMP $19.00 @ http://www.ricambiamerica.com a good cheap precaution.

and the coolant is circulating, I'm at a loss, the car idles fine, just heats up when driving, then gradually gets hotter and hotter. If I just fire it up and let it idle it doesn't get over 195, ever.

Check to see if there is any coolant in the oil and/or oil in the coolant. That make test kits for both that you can buy at a parts store. If so, you could have a headgasket problem. Also, check your alternator output. Believe it or not, when my BB512i started running 100c in traffic, up from 85-90c, it turned out to be the alternators were not putting out enough current to turn the radiator fans at full speed even though they were coming on and spinning around. After I had the radiators rebuilt, the fan spun faster and the coolant temp went back to 85-90c...only in an Italian car!

The car has 2 thermostats. If one is not open or partially open it would perform as yours does.
