Cool pics. What were the boys paying for fuel there? My mate said it was around $1.70 litre for premium on average around the Alice, Finke Desert Race time. What was the cheapest and dearest fuel price? If you boys still remember? No troubles with not having a fuel car there for backup? Any close calls running out of fuel?
always an interesting sign... me and dingo had gone scouting for a good location to shoot the cars, they did a drive by, and kept driving!!! eventually these two boys came back to pick us up. Image Unavailable, Please Login
ahh those two cars saved us from a 132km walk back to Alice Springs Ash, I reckon I'd still be out there now if they didn't show...
here's dingo at the office, god knows how he bends around like that, i was thankful i had his old camera with the swivelly lcd thingo so i could point it where i wanted. oh, and found the pic he was taking at the time... check out the twin camera harvey-keitel style i've got going in the lamborghini... vid AND stills simultaneously Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Lotus wouldn't go over 290kph. I was getting full 1.25bar of boost in the lower gears but in fifth she wouldn't go over 0.6bar and she wouldn't redline. She's good for 307kph supposedly, but as I said I couldn't get her over 290kph. We reset the ECU just in case that was the issue, still no go. Then Francois had the brilliant idea to disconect the wastegate, so when we pushed it, she blew the intercooler hose. So I told Francois to connect everything back and just let her be LOL At least I know the speed indicated was accurate as I had the speedo recalibrated the day before Alice (that's why i came with it in my pocket). She also used the least amount of fuel - where the E55 used 70litres, on the same stretch and same speeds the Lotus only used 39litres. Oh yeah, and people were tripping over themselves to take a look at her, just like the hotel manager who told me to park it in the foyer and put velvet rope around her because 'she will make the hotel look good', while the other cars like the 997, all they got was a mop bucket in front of them out in the street/driveway Image Unavailable, Please Login
nice couple shots of the squadron at the sunset photo shoot just after scud chucked the keys to dingo to take it for a run for him Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Awesome car!! The 348 and your car, similar shape, would have looked great in pics together near the Rock!! Cheers for the pics Andrew.

That was funny - what a day he had! Ripped the aerofoil under his car, cracked his windscreen and bent a guard in that cyclist! All within a few hours. Poor guy.
Yes, they would have looked good together. I was thinking the same thing when I was out there. Next year I'll bring a Lambo though.
