Also, depending on where you live, every thing you want to do has to be approved by various commities and associations. It's a constant battle with them as to what can and cannot be approved. The worst I've heard is a friend that bought an oceanfront lot on the top of the cliff in La Jolla, CA. There was a dump of a house on it that he was going to bulldoze and build a new monster of a place. He said dealing with all those commisions denying everything was such a nightmare he sold the lot. For example, the existing house was right on the edge of the bluff, and you can remodel it, but if you want to tear it down, any new constrction now has to be set back 30 feet from the edge.

Even at my parents house, if they want to plant one single plant in the yard that isnt on the list of approved plants, they have to take a picture of it, and it has to be voted on in the next meeting.

I thought Enzo's were going for 1mm or so. Why would it be worth $2.5mm in Singapore? If that's the case why wouldn't someone arbitrage the price difference between the US and import it into singapore?

Same with my parent's house in Arizona. There is a list of what plants can go in the front and back and how far your house to be from the street and lights must point downward and a ton of other crap.

You should see the presentation my dad had to make to have a grotto added to the pool. Inspectors had to verify it wouldn't be seen from the street and blocked with specific plants.

Yeah there is extremely high tax here on cars, as an example a new 612 here will run you about a million singapore dollars, which is about $US 680K. I don't know quite how it works here in terms of purchasing though and importing from overseas, but from what i do know is that there is a huge tax percentage that must be paid on top. But yeah, there is apparently 3 enzo's here, though they arent road legal as its only RHD over here

Yeah that house is here in Singapore, i believe the owner sold his business a few years back for something like $350 million, but i'm not quite sure what hes doing at the moment. The house is quite massive for Singapore standards, but i guess not by foreign standards, i dont think he really has any outdoor ground behind the house as there is another house right behind his, its in quite a built up area. I guess one of the reasons its not amazingly big is its only about 2 minutes from the main shopping/CBD area here and land is quite scarce here

I heard that the Sultan of Johor owns most of Orchard Road which is Singapore's main street, is that correct? And that this Sultan has quite a car collection too.

I don't think the Sultan of Johor owns most of Orchard Road, i think most of the buildings are owned by various organisations or business's, could be wrong though. But yes i think it is true that the Sultan of Johor does have a considerable car collection, some of his exotic cars are seen here from time to time. Doesnt quite match the Sultan of Brunei though :D

I've always found it funny that the estimated net worth of the Sultan of Brunei fell from $40 billion to about $10 Billion. Bad investor?

I should have stated, he was given $40 Billlion from his father when he died. The guys spends the money like it's going out of style (read that has a mansion the size of a Las Vegas strip hotel, has a Airbus 340, ect.) and has provides solid social services to the citizens of Brueni. His brother stole I think around $3 billion as well.

I have read that Brueni only has around 20 years or so left of oil reserves (the main source of income, through Shell).

A question, does the government of Singapore own a lot of the land in it's country? Or is the land "free-market"?

Do most drivers still in Monaco?

I've always wonder, can you buy one or two acres of land in Monaco and build a house?
