Why drive a fast exotic if you are going to drive like a little old lady?

    Somehow though the years fall away when I'm driving alone in the hills or at a trackday...

    Then why not build a replicar if you just want the looks?. It makes no since that people grief over replicars and yet when someone owns an exotic they don't want to beat the hell out of it like it was made for.

    It makes no since at all you buy a Ferrari to take it to the track and race it, not to be driving it around like a little old lady!.

    No I don't own an exotic of anykind but I will soon.

    That's different. Women will think anoth woman is "stunning" simply because of the clothes she is wearing rather than looks/body (obviously because they feel threatened by hot chicks too). Most of the time, men wear designer clothes to attract women, even though some don't have the body of a fashion model.

    All in all, fashion is for women, and men exploit it! Go men!

    I was at a meet in Reading PA not too long ago, and was leaving behind a 400i. He was doing 25 or 30 the whole time out of town, and didnt really make a break for it at all - with most of the others (later, myself) leaving him in rubber dust.

    A long time ago when I was a kid I was convinced all the really cool cars were wasted on the old guys with all the grey hair that never drove their cars like they stole 'em. Just seemed so wrong.

    Now I'm an "old" guy with grey hair and an entry-level Fcar. I bought it because it's an uncompromised all-out sports car, and I was tired of marketing study/focus-group compromises. It's very tacticle to drive , amazing sound, great packaging, wonderful history, reasonable performance, and ok styling. I didn't buy it to be Mario Andretti every day (there's a kid up here in a Gallardo who's always at 100mph plus in 20 and 30 zones passing on corners...). I'm more than ok being the one at the speed limit having the highway patrol yelling at me "you don't have to go that slow lol".

    I drive the Fcar a lot - sometimes even a "little" above the speed limits, but outside the city and away from the gawkers.

    I don't do the track with this car because it's a spider and I'd want a roll-bar before doing that. I've had great fun on the track with previous cars and learned tons.

    the best part about being "the old grey-haired guy wasting his Fcar" is that I don't care what the testosterone gang thinks. I get enough adrennaline rush paying the mortgage, meeting payroll every month, and destroying the competition :D

    Perhaps a mechanical problem? Nobody went back to check if he was OK?

    Judging exotic owners by the speeds, or lack of speeds, they drive is stupid.

    This is why Canada is a 3rd world country!! :) Just kidding.

    I still feel that every drive in one of my sports cars is considered 'practice'. I am just tired of the people who bought these cars to look good and show off, rather than drive them the way they were supposed to be driven. This is why Enzo had contempt for his customers....he felt that they really weren't worthy of driving his cars. And from what I have seen.........he wasn't far off the mark.

    The first time I drove a Ferrari, a 328, the owners only instruction besides the usual warm ups was to drive it exactly like I drive my own car. Don't abuse it, but just do what you normally do because it's when you start being a pansy that accidents happen. This was great advice and I had a wonderful yet uneventful hour long drive in a 328.

    I'd put money that this 430 is that gentlemans first Ferrari and with it a bunch of preconceived misguided notions about the car itself. In my opinion driving a few miles and hour slower than the flow of traffic is always more dangerous than being even or 5-10mph faster. Add the gawk factor into this equation and you're just increasing the odds of an accident. Sooner or later this guy is going to get tagged in a situation easily avoided and instead of learning to carry more speed he'll retreat from our roadways altogether. Ok, maybe that's just wishful thinking but he'll more than likely take his lesson the wrong way when it's delivered.

    1. Did he have have his Old Lady shotgun? Some become unpleasant for several days after displays of speed. Ask me how I know this sometime...

    2. When my stepkid got his 1996 LT4 Vette 6speed to go to college 6 years ago - I had a little talk with him about street racing. The points were: only three things can possibly happen if you try this.

    first - you will likely win, but it will impress no one. After all, you have a black Vette...the other kids have old ricers.

    second - you may possibly run into the odd sleeper ricer with nitrous oxide, and the result will most certainly impress everybody, especially those other kids with old ricers.

    third - if you get caught by the cops while doing this, I have kept your old ricer out there in the back as I will take back the LT4 and start putting a coil-over suspension in it. It will then become my track car.

    I do agree that there is little excuse not to keep up with traffic, however!

    He was causing a traffic jam putting down the road, this caused me to get boxed in as well from cars that caught up with me from behind creating a potential for a chain reaction accident which I would have been involved with as well if someone got a little too close to him or any other 1000things that can happen.

    Anytime I get cars following too close I am gone if possible, sometimes cars in front slow down in both lanes and are checking you out in their rear view mirrors then you get boxed in from behind from other cars catching up, they will be riding right beside the car also actually in your blind spot blocking any chance of an evasive move if needed, the guys in front are busy looking in their mirrors and not watching whats going on ahead of them so you are screwed when they run into something or slam on their brakes if needed as everyone else is right on your tail or beside you.

    It seems this would be common sense to not get stuck in these situations. but I guess not for those that are too busy posing or afraid of either the cars performance or breaking something.

    Yes, this unnatural slow train irritates me to no end.

    The second worst is the tailgater, when you yourself are doing limit-or-better and making an effort not to follow too close to traffic in front.

    Add to that a little rain for the very first time in days, + the fact you know you have better brakes and tires.

    Sorry, I didn't want to turn your thread into an anti-street-racing rant...

    BTW, Vincent survived both college and the street scene, and got to be a parking valet because he knew stick shift and had a good record. He got to drive his first several Fcars that way.

    I'm not sure that we are in full possession of the facts in this case. There are several reasons why people drive slowly and most of them have been well laid out in this thread.
    The single biggest reason is that the speed limit for exotics is generally 10 MPH slower than any run of the mill car. In a traffic pattern on a freeway where the traffic is all moving at 10 -15 MPH over the limit a cop is most likely to ferret out the exotic in the pack to ticket.
    This has happened to me a couple of times in the past dozen years so I take care to move at the limit on busy freeways, in the right lane away from the yahoos in their F150 trucks, barreling along at 90 MPH.
    I get a lot of track time and I drive my cars hard and fast on a track. I'm not sure what there is to gain by speeding on a public freeway, other than the scorn of your fellow motorists and an involuntary contribution to the public coffers.

    Hey Dino, lots of talent there....

    If the guy was in the slow lane I don't see a problem. Its the people that deliberately drive below the speed limit in the fast lane that annoy the crap out of me and are far more dangerous than the guy
    keeping up with the traffic flow
