Carolyn- Thanks for the pic.s. The shot of the temperature says it all. That was one toasty project.

For those who may not know, in early Aug. it became obvious that the drought was going to fry the showfield. So the club made the decision to do whatever it took to save it.

Don & Carolyn stepped forward. As ICF Benefactors they took on the cost of the 'water buffalo', that 500 gal tank with a gas powered sprayer.

Then Don, Carolyn and about a dozen volunteers signed up in shifts. The field was watered three times a week at about 3 1/2 hrs per shift. I can testify: Sometimes it was ridiculously hot.

It worked. And the showfield looks great. I met Don and Carolyn out there today as they made a final watering with fertilizer. The city mowed and tidied up the area while we were there. Later, Mark LaCroix will have a team that will cover the area prior to the show to pick up any trash.

A Pharonic project well executed. Below is the watering schedule. When you see any of the people that helped out, please shake their hand. They donated their time, gas and vehicles to provide ICF a green showfield

    Sat. Aug 12 a.m. - Don & Carolyn Rose & the gang
Sun. Aug 13 a.m. - Kevin Burns & Jerry Lee Phillips
Wed Aug 16 a.m. - Jeff Cook, Kevin B and JLP
Thurs Aug 17 p.m. Don & Carolyn Rose
Sat Aug 19 a.m. JLP, Jeff Briggs, Bob Dezzany & Garrick Whitnah
    Tues Aug 22 a.m. Kevin & Garrick
    Thurs Aug 24 p.m. Jeff C, Chris M, Mark LaCroix & JLP
104 degrees ties record - When will this heatwave end???
Sat Aug 26 JLP, Bob, Jeff B, Garrick
Sun Aug 27 JLP, Garrick, Kevin, Val Herrera, Jeff C- no rain in forecast
Mon Aug 28 Good rain and lower temperatures begin!
Tues Aug 29 No watering - Partly Cloudy & High of 87. Hurrah!
Thurs Aug 31 a.m. Kevin, JLP & Bruce Trotter
Sat Sept 2 a.m. Don, Garrick, Chris & Jeff Scheferman
Sun Sept 3 a.m. Val, Kevin, Brock Butler & Rick Moreno.
Mon Sept 4 Labor Day Holiday- Nice steady rain all day long
    Tues Sept 5 p.m. Don & Carolyn

    Thanks to all.

    Great effort everyone!

Now that ICF has allowed for more capacity, I encourage all Italian car "drive-bys" to actually enter instead. In past years I've counted over 20 Ferraris in the parking lots that weren't entered. Enter your car to support the Italian Car Club of Southwest and the event itself. The bigger the event, the bigger the fun and the more resources that can grow it into a premier national event that this area has been lacking.

These events aren't about having the rarest, perfectly detailed, or expensive car. It is about sharing our passion with other Italian car enthusiasts.

Actually the city pruned the trees, got rid of the branches, cut out dead trees and ground out the stumps for us. Now I don't know about the leaves....

Actually, it kinda makes it look like fall. Does it make you feel any cooler? :)

Hey, don't forget to credit our exploited child laborer, Alex. He came out with me twice to help out and did a great job, all for the price of an orange soda.

I'll be there in heat or light rain... registered a while ago.
Fortunately, it appears we have good weather in store.

Thanks in advance to all who have been working so hard to make the event great.

As an enticement, here's photos of last years' event.

    Day-of-Show Entries

It really makes it great for all those involved to get some kind remarks. Thanks so much. And thanks for signing up for this year's extravaganza.

So it does not get lost, please allow me to touch on a message from above.

We been asked a number of times in the past week whether we will allow on-site entries Saturday morning. With our beautiful location, we have plenty of room for more cars- so come on out!

Since we need to get day-of-show entries registered, properly classed and on the field in a good location, please be at the show field by 8:00 - no later.

Because we feel this is THE year to be at ICF, we have decided to keep the premium for day-of-show registration to a minimum. Saturday on-site registration will be only $75. You will get to participate fully in the judging and enjoy the benefits of the hospitality lounge aboard the Lonestar Lady.

The response to making day-of-show entry possible has been spectacular. Please take advantage of it if you want your Italian car seen by thousands of enthusiasts.

Weather.com is showing 93 as a high for Saturday. A little warm but it looks like any rain has been pushed out until Sunday and further!

93 should be fine as it always seems cooler by the lake.

And another great car coming in close to the show:

A 1935 Fiat 508S Mille Miglia Aerodynamica Coupe. The car has been in Italy until recently. Once owned by the mayor of Milan.

There are a few trees, but they aren't a lot of shade.

Approx. 28 cars will be under tents. There are also numerous sponsor tents and a ICCS club tent.

There are 11 small 'pavilions' which are a roof over a concrete picnic table & benches.

The Lonestar Lady will be docked there as the hospitality lounge for entrants - shade and drinks. See link:

Apparently everyone is hopping for ICF!

I got a call yesterday to see if I could cornerwork a track event this weekend. The guy said "I was calling you and just noticed your email address (Ducati@....). I don't suppose there is any way you are not going to ItalianCarFest ?" :)

I'm happy to offer my driveway/garden hose to any out-of-towners that would like to clean up their cars, but I'm not close to the Gaylord. I'm about 20 miles away. It's an easy 20 miles though.

I'm only a mile away, so I guess my place would be better. I have plenty of pavement space too. PM if needed.

Minor warning for driveway washing. If you are in a city that has gone to phase 3 of the water restrictions,(which many have), you can only wash vehicles out of a bucket of water, not a hose. Probably not a large ticket, but just wanted to give a heads up. This message has been brought to you by your local sewer and water contractor.

Wow! What a class act. After 15 hours of travel time, Tom Tjaada was absolutely gracious upon his arrival by generously spending time with those gathered to greet him upon his arrival.

We quickly learned he is a terrific combination of being plain-spoken, has a good humor peppered with keen-insight and possesses a natural curiosity. He also has a genuine desire to communicate with people in an unpretentious manner.

If you have not already entered Saturday's show, plan on doing so. (Be at Oak Grove Park before 8 a.m.) This is going to be an ICF to remember .
