4th 308 now. i have the old belts from all of the cars. i know for a fact due to the service history the belts in my black GTB were only 5 years old. i had them done when i got the car, and the belts were not rotted or cracked, but they have a DEFINATE "memory" to them, even off the car. the GTB was not driven much after its last major service. the fact that the belts did not have many miles on them, but look a bit glazed and still makes me very glad i had a friend change them. the belts in my red old GTB had not been done in some time, and they look and feel awful in your hands. it was also a good idea that i had them done as soon as the car was delivered. i dont see why there is a debate on this. 3 to 5 years and replace them. not doing so defies logic and risks another ferrari bieng parted out after the grenade goes off.
Holy sh*t, is that right!? sorry I asked thought it was his wife or sister or something along those lines/curvers or whatever.
Very sad to hear. The lambo doors are very very worrying now. Ive never thought what would happen if the lambo was on its lid. Now we know. You are stuck in the car. Just hope it doesnt catch on fire.
Have to keep her around, in almost 30 years of marriage, I have never once done the check books, banking payments etc. I have no idea where the money is or where it goes.........Besides, she is a realy nice lady. Doug
The picture on his posting , she looks like Courtney Cox, I just opened her web site to see she looks nothing like Courtney, she was a really pretty lady. A terrible loss to us all. Doug
The UK. In fact major 30k serive are around $2k or less i have been told. Seems we Yanks are getting screwed.
Agreed. If changing belts takes 8 hours (about two hours too long) and labor is $125 an hour, with belts running $120 -$130 for a pair, you're at $1130. I think some people are equating "major service" with simply a belt change every 5 yrs. But back on topic, I've had my 308 for 20 years and its had the belts changed twice. Once as part of the major before I bought it and once in 1998. Between 1986 when it was purchased and 1992 I ran lots of track events with the car. I changed the belts in '98 because I wanted to run some more track events. Its cheap insurance for sure but I believe 5yrs is too soon considering belt technology has improved immensly since 1970 when Ferrari spec'd out the maintenance regimen. In an earlier post I thought I read that FNA has ammended the spec to "every 3 years"? That's ridiculous.
First, I am new at Ferrari, I have only owned 1 other car with a timing belt, and I swore it would be the last. My Ferrari is due for 2 reasons, I did not get any service records with the car and my Car Fax says there was service done 3 years ago, and I don't know what was serviced. With that said, I do believe in maintenance when required, and as required. So my question to someone who would run cam belts longer than recommended is.... #1. If you were in the market for a Ferrari, and you found one that had 3+ year old belts would you negotiate the price to have them replaced? #2. Would you put a used cam belt, say 3+ years old on your car and feel comfy driving it to work, on a track, or across the country? If so, I guess you are doing the right thing running them longer. this is an argument i don't understand, maybe becouse i'm an ME and can follow the evolution of the belts used in the automotive industry. the search function will net loads of info but it seems to come down to personal comfort. ponder this, in 1977 the industry had outdated the trapazoidal belt ferrari and others were using. old tech is an understatement. the cost of the belt is cheap insurance. i'm working on the belt update to include the 348 engines as well. 80% done on the 328. tilllman and verrel are being very paitent, thanks guys.
Hey guys...it's a tribute....she does look like Valeria doesn't she? Here's the real one..... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Changing belts, like driving you car around with lovely ladies in it, requires good judgement! Maybe a little self control....... Original interval + 30 years of tech bulletins equals 3 years, and as noted you are supposed to do a lot of other procedures while you are in there...... I agree that where the confusion on cost comes in.. I don't blame the Lambo doors, he fractured the oil pan on the second airborne hop, so the car was burning before it ever rolled over...must have been some kind of speed....drive safe ya'll! I think it was two airborne hops and a few rolls before the car landed upside down on fire .......the Challenger crew faced the same odds of survival......sometimes it's just not your day. The record IS straight on belts, I don't understand all the whining.....admittedly the 3 years is for engines still under warranty! LOL! Sorry to derail the thread, welcome back Vern!
I love the old belts, real easy to replace, and cheep. Don't forget the old "Trapazoidal" belts just ran accessories like the fan, and alternator and if it broke, you seldom gernaded an engine with valves dropping through the tops of pistons and pistons mushromming and damaging cylinder walls, and possible bending or breaking rods. I agree it's personal comfort, I prefer the assurance of knowing the parts under the bonnett are as good as I can keep them or afford to keep them so I can enjoy the investiment of a Ferrari. Doug
Bubba, Whats in the background behind your car....looks like 9/11 wreckage and yes she is a good tribute to the model who passed Doug
I wish the flash had gotten the dragon, that's Drakka...from Burning Man....maybe you can Google her.....5 sections, throws fire 200' and includes a lounge and a bar with a bartender with halter top and multi colored hair..... 2006 Houston Art Car Ball......google that as well. Come down next year! One year they lost the drummer from the band, I had to 'sit in'......
That's the Czech firefighter and the model's friend at the scene.... This thread is gonna teach folks to talk belts without a search, eh? ROTFLMAO! The wreck pics are terrible, not on this site but there is a link to them in Lamborghini.Chat below...I wouldn't click on it before lunch though......poor girl.
