This is Fairfax, Virginia so I was facing max..1 year in jail, 6 month loss of license and a 2500 dollar fine. Well I got the best lawyer in town...recommended to me by Stephen here at Ferrarichat. He did a fantastic job.

    Suspended license charge dropped,

Reckless driving plea deal.... 60 day loss of license (eligible for restricted license in 10 days), 3 days in jail, 700 dollar fine.

I am very pleased and want to thank some of the guys here at Ferrarichat for all your excellent advice and recommendations. Without you I probably would of ended up like the guy who went up right before me..for 123 in a 55.....he got 6 months in jail. Again thanks for your help!

Holy S! 105 in a 75 was $350 in Arizona. No jail, loss of license or lawyer. But this is the wild west so don't steal a horse, I think they can hang you for that one. Good luck on the three days I would ask for solitary confinement.

Yeah, sleep a bunch, don't tell anyone where you live and be nice to the corrections guys. Some of them are pretty cool.

Oh, and make sure to laugh at the irony of watching COPS from the jail cell/dorm. I sure did.

Sh*t man, prison for driving fast, that is crazy!!!
Over here I drive 190mph in a 75mph driving zone (our max. speed limit on our highways) and if I get caught, I would just pay a fine of max. USD 50.00 and occasionally I can even reduce it to half.
No driving in the States for me.

Yah I plan on being respectful to everyone. I'm a fomer Army Paratrooper and was in Iraq and Afghanistan for quite some time so these 3 days will be a cakewalk I reckon.

The penalty seems kind of harsh, but I guess there is some backstory from the suspended license part.

I lost my license for 9 months and got a 2000 dollar fine for driving 83 kmh (52 mph) in a 50 kmh (30 mph) zone. 1 month left without my license. The law is a bit stricter here in Norway. And I thought I had a good lawyer!!!

The backstory was in my favor....an old speeding ticket from Georgia caught up with me, I had paid this ticket yet the books said I didn't. The DMV suspended my license without even informing me. I found out that day I got pulled over. Technically I should of been arrested on the spot for the speeding alone but the cop was cool and I was respectful so he wrote the summons and sent me on my way.

Having a sharp snake for a lawyer and my service record with 2 combat tours was the winning combination here I think. More credit to the lawyer though.

Nah this penalty was considered a break here....harsh would of been the full year in jail....and it isn't uncommon.

I am glad I live in Michigan. In 2001, I got paced going 100mph plus in a 70 mph zone. The officer said he looked at his speedometer and he was going over 100 mph and I was still pulling away from him. The cop was in an unmarked camaro. The cop was great. He didn't chew me out. He asked me if it was an emergency and I told him it was not. He then asked me how my driving record was and I told him I had never gotten a ticket. I told him I just got the car about a month ago which was true. He suggested I set my cruise control on the highway so I don't accidently go as fast again. I thought I was going to get away with a warning but he wrote me up for 10mph over. He wrote in the comments section "Paced at 100mph+" just in case I wanted to fight it. I chose not to :) I never go that fast anymore. I realize I was lucky and I could have possibly been arrested for reckless driving.

I "know a guy who" got pulled over for 95 in a 55. Cop was really cool and let him go with just a warning. He says he also, wont ever speed there again.

Have you ever heard about that motorcyclist in Minnesota who was going close to 200mph? The cops tried to give him a reckless driving ticket, but the judge said no since the cyclist never changed lanes and was on an empty road. He got off on a small fine, but then again his father was like a deputy or something...

Btw, I don't speed much anymore. I got up to a speed on the FL Turnpike one time and then realized that had there been a cop over a hill I passed, I would've been screwed. Big time.

My GOD! Get the hell out of that place ASAP! Draconian is almost an understatement.

If you only knew what you can get away with in Louisiana!

So sorry to hear this, the sentencing there is the true CRIME!

Can't believe your happy about it, Jail Time? That's bull CRAP! Every TV commercial you see, from a Freekin mini van to a Hundai starts out telling you the HP ratings and encourages you to speed. And here we have cars with 500-600HP that are street legal, what the hell for then?

Nick - I am an atty in Northern Va and my father-in-law has been doing traffic and other crimnal defense in Fairfax for about 35 years. would you mind PM-ing me w/ the name of your lawyer? sounds like he did the best he could.

for those who don't know, Northern Virginia is tough, and Fairfax is the toughest of the local jurisdictions on this stuff. Do not go to Fairfax w/out an atty and expect to be able to plead down. My wife is a former prosecutor in both Prince William County and City of Alexandria; she has warned me about my 110mph early sunday morning F-car runs; "if you get pulled at that speed, my badge will not help you; you will go to jail and your Ferrari will be impounded!"

Oh, I just re-read the thread and realized this occurred on a Suspended License. Which makes MUCH more sense for the harsh sentencing (although 6 months to a year is a little much).

I once gave two speeding tickets to a lawyer to handle and was told both went through fine and were not on my record. Well, 3 months later I am on my way to McDonald's at 8:00pm and a couple of officers run my license plate and pull me over. Apparently my lawyer LOST one of the tickets and didn't notify me, so my license had been suspended without me knowing. So they took me in for a cool 8 hours of sitting in New Orleans Central Lockup and left my car sitting parked illegally and UNLOCKED near the Magnolia Projects in New Orleans.

When they got me out of the squad car at jail I thought something fell out of my pockets (I was still cuffed). So I looked back at the seat as I stood up. The officer goes, "what are you looking at son?"
Me: "These pockets aren’t the best and stuff tends to fall out, so I want to make sure I have my keys and phone for when I get out of here."
Officer to partner "I think he is trying to stash something"
    Me: "What???!"

Officers proceed to take back seat out of the cruiser and search around. All the while I am thinking, "HOLY ****! They better NOT find any drugs some crack head stashed back here right before they picked me up!"

Luckily they found nothing, but man was I worried.

And once inside I fit in REALLY well. Seersucker pants, Tulane hat, Yellow Polo Shirt, and sandals. And I didn't get to have my burger! :)

Needless to say I had a lovely conversation with my lawyer the next day.

But anyways, I can understand your frustration if you were not aware that it was suspended.

From the judge's perspective they are very serious about making it your responsibility to make sure tickets are handled and whatnot. I know, it stinks if there is a clerical mistake along the way.

Yet the judge has to figure what happens if someone knows their license is suspended, gets in their car, comes around a bend at 115(140 ;) ), blows a tire, and goes careening into a car or an individual. It means your insurance company won't cover you, so you are essentially an uninsured motorist acting 'recklessly' in the eyes of the court. The rationale has merit.

    Still not fun though! :(

Make sure to do a nice burnout in the lot on the way out!!!
