I always look to see who I know them through. If I dont know any of their friends, I dont approve it. My profile is as private as possible; you have to be my friend to view it. I dont want random people looking at my profile. If its one or two people, I look back to the days preceeding the invitation and try to remember if I met them at a party or event. If I know them through 50 people, I assume its ok.
I Think im there too. Reconnected with long time friends that i lost touch with. I think its great... provided you dont put up to much info on your page, and keep it private.
I got on it in 2004 when they made it open to non-ivy college students via invite from an ivy user. My buddy at Cornell sent me an invite and it was addictive, but I left after it added more ads and they opened it to everyone so high school kids and parents got on it... It was cool while it lasted.
Still on it but pretty much only because of the login feature on certain sites you have to sign up for. The people I talk to, abroad or not, I talk to via whatsapp (or an ordinary phone call). These same people we all send photos that we want to share with each other. I have Instagram for seeing pictures of interest. Twitter for news (mostly F1 related). I like twitter because I get news purely based on things I want to know about. Follow some other people who are just entertaining. FB has become pointless. I hate their inconsistent timeline, even though I've got it set to the proper setting it just doesn't work. So many ads. Funny enough, FB seems to be doing quite well financially.
Gave it up about 5 years ago. I grew up in a small town like area, 9k people. Most of the people I knew growing up, I still see them in person. Most of the people I know on FB are Women, including my Mother and her friends. It became too much women talk and I lost interest.
No , I'm not or have had a Facebook account , however I am a very happy shareholder. Thank you Facebook.
