It is quite simple, I do not understand why some people, do not seem to get it, it doesn't matter, if it's intentional blocking or not. The driver of a car, who IS NOT on a Q lap, is supposed to get clearly out of the way of anyone who IS on a Q lap(period) Not race them, not try to stay in front of them, get the F out of the way and let them pass unimpeded! That's why he was penalized! Fairly, I will add. IMO
"If a driver is deemed to have stopped unnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during the qualifying session, then his times will be cancelled" As per the F1 website http://www.formula1.com/insight/rulesandregs/13/995.html You must be the only person on earth who feels this way. How do you think it's even possible that FA was impeding Massa? He was far enough ahead of him to only not impede him he was probably helping him by giving him a draft. Alonso was on a warm up lap and had to hustle to make it to the line to have his lap count. It's not like he was puttering around. What did you want him to do pull over, stop and let Massa by him when he was several yards behind him? Alonso was following the rules, once again he did nothing wrong. So when you have two cars follwing each other closely during qualy the car in front will always be penalised because he's in front of him regardless of whether or not the other car is catching him or not? come on man, you gotta be kidding
see this is where so many people get it wrong....he didn't "block" him...he affected his lap. Massa had to drive in Alonso's turbulence..even Renault admit Massa was in Alonso's dirty air, but they're only admitting it gave him a tow. Clearly, if it can give a tow, it can cause a loss of downforce too. Where would massa have been on the grid if he hadn't had to lift coming onto the main straight?
He lost it in a cloud of oil smoke not controversy. The moment the Renault engine let go it nullified the impact of any penalty. I would rather see FA keep his focus on driving rather than talking smack. And that crap he pulls when he wins a race belongs somewhere other than in F1. He could do better to lose his attitude and start acting like a champion in the ultimate form or racing - not one of the mediocre talents in NASCAR.
Ok so how many other countless laps have been "affected" by traffic and such? The rules say impeded not affected, to me means blocking. So by merely being in front of another car you're breaking the rules? Why don't we go back to single car then? Does anyone know for sure if Massa even did have to lift? I never heard anything about it.
sorry...can't answer most of that. yes he DID have lift...that was the whole reason for the complaint...lifting coming onto the main straight makes a HUGE difference.
I'm sure it does make a huge difference but frankly unless the telemetry is shown, i don't buy it. He never got that close to Alonso. It seems to be a funny time to enforce a rule so strictly when it wasn't in the past with a championship on the line. This is why there are conspiracy theories.
Will make for an interesting rest of season. Motorsports and Soap Opera all-in-one! Who will be KICKED OFF THE ISLAND?
Babe Ruth has the most strikeouts in the history of baseball, but is that what he is remembered for? So Schumi's been penalized a lot, big deal. As for Alonso, he has a decent thing going for him. If he would take the time he spends talking and apply it toward driving, perhaps when he goes down in history people will remember him for more than his mouth? He's a good driver, but he hasn't proven himself nearly as consistently or with as much longevity as Schumacher. Could he? Who knows... but talking is certainly not going to help him achieve another 5 WDCs. Just my 0.02.. great discussion guys!
I don't know what you are trying to read into these words, but it surely does not support your side of this discussion. He impeded Massa's Q lap!! Instead of firing a salvo, you threw me your ammo!! You must be sillier than a Christmas goose, if you really believe your own words in that one. First of all, the FIA stewards (who know more about the situation than any of us here), Briatore, Alonso, Massa and a host of others disagree with you. Like manna from heaven, the words tumbled from the mouths of both Briatore and Alonso, "I did my lap without blocking anyone INTENTIONALLY," said Alonso. "...Fernando never INTENTIONALLY wanted to stop Massa," explained Briatore. "...we had no INTENTION to stop Massa," said Briatore. "Team boss Flavio Briatore made it clear that Alonso had not impeded Massa DELIBERATELY." Alonso insisted that he, "did not block Massa DELIBERATELY." OK wordsmith, I've got a puzzle for you...take the words; no, not, never, without, INTENTION, INTENTIONALLY and DELIBERATELY, out of the preceding quotes, what's left? The lady doth protest too much, methinks. - William Shakespeare This was only the lame defense that Renault mounted to try and reduce or nullify the penalty. Look at the time that Alonso posted for his Q lap (1:25.688) and Look at the time that Massa put up for his in that session(1:21.704), NUFF SAID!! Yes, that is the rule, he doesn't have to stop, but he is required to let the hot Q lapper go by unimpeded. WRONG, see above! You still are out of touch with reality, Alonso was not on a Q lap!!! Because he was not on a Q lap, he is required to get the F out of the way!!! THAT'S IT!!! That is the rule!!! You copied it and pasted it yourself, I included it again, in this post for you easy referencing pleasure. How can it be made any clearer??? I suppose you didn't see that Alonso and Fisi jumped the start, or that Alonso cut the chicane to make a pass and was not penalized??? Why are you not bit*hing about those??? Could it be that you have a decidedly bias edged axe to grind here in the Ferrari-Dome?
Haa!! I knew I had seen those brows before! It had been bugging me the past few years! Thank your GF for me
FA stated that the engine blew because he had to push it. This was a new spec engine not a second race engine most of the other teams were on second race engines even Fisi. FA complains (cries) everytime things do not go his way or Renault. Jean Todt could not of said it better if you do not like leave. DM
I think I figure it out. Alonso is jealous because he is the current WC but nobody cares! Alonso is a prick and I will never like him [CAFONE!]
IMHO this just confirms that FA was and is an undeserving world champion. Whether he wins the WC this year or not, I'm looking forward to watching him wallowing towards the bottom of the top 10 next year. I wonder if he'll turn on his team as quickly when looking for someone else to blame for poor performances. I think the Williams drivers this year have shown terrific diplomacy in trying not to point the finger (too much) at their underperforming team.
So a car several yards in front of you in OPEN qualifying consistutes blocking? Lol you're the one out of touch. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/impede Read that then you'll know what the definition of impede is.... Everyone has a right to go out to get thier last fast lap in before the end of the session. There so no rule saying he has to "get the F outta the way" as you so eloquently put it if he's about to start a hot lap. If there is such a rule show it to me. How come there's never been a penalty for this other than this weekend? You're gonna tell me that the rule was written to stop people from running in front of each other in open qualifying? The rule was written to stop people from doing stuff like MS did at Monaco. Axe grinding, nope, just sick of the FIA messing with the championship when they need to stay the F out of it.
Alonso cut the chicane kinda like MS did a few races before with no penalty either I might add, and may have jumped the start (i really didn't look) but it's not my job to catch such things. I guess the FIA thought putting him at 10 place on the grid was penalty enough. GF isn't worth a crap this year so why bother with him......
Well stated. I don't think any racing team (except maybe Minardi or Super Aguri) is in a position to criticize another. I believe Ferrari is the face of F1 and probably get their fair share of preferable treatment, but I also believe McLaren, Renault, Williams, Sauber, and Honda aren't just doing everything above board (remember Honda's "extra" gas tank that was supposed to hide they were running light?). Everyone seems to jump on this high horse about "Ferrari cheating", but to ignore the fact that every competitive team pushes the envelope is what bothers me.
A few races back DC complained several times fo someone blocking him, Scott speed for one and speed was put back a couple positions not sure how many. also Renault complained last two races about Ferrai's real wheels and this week about a chemical sprayed on the tires. DM
Michelin had been a better tire developer for 3 years running, and it was widely understood they would adapt better to the new rules, thereby giving Ferrari a disadvantage out of the gates. I think there is no doubt that the tire rule was initiated in order to rekindle the championship competition. Problem was, Ferrari's car did not make up for the tire difficulties and the championship was handed to Renault instead.
he's just a immatured whiner and cry baby. MS never opened his mouth and say anything in monaco. instead, he let his driving to his talking. talk about unsporting...u think what ur doing is sporting huh Fred? i'm just waiting to see the look on ur face when MS gets the crown this year.
