Recommendation for Next Addition to GDC Fleet

The S7 transmission is sensitive...and thats not good considering the 400-600k price range. I believe a driving class comes with buying the car.

The LM002 was/is impressive. But I'm not sure anything that isn't geared to today's soccer mom or Macho Dad would fly.

 

I was thinking about some entry-level roadster... Either Z4M or SLK55... And maybe another Porsche? GT3 maybe? RS? something more edgy then regular Turbo.

 

the z4m is amazing to drive.

 

997 turbo would be the most likely i feel. reliable, exotic and damn fast.

the 996 turbo cab has to be racking up miles and now that the 997's have been out several months this would be my best guess.

I'm thinking about it again... How about some older exotic? Diablo? 512? Skyline? (not an exotic but hard to find).

HBO's "Entourage" has made it hip again.

 

Classic/vintage cars are awesome, but I dont think Noah wants the headache that comes with maintaining old things, at least not for a business fleet.

To the guy who suggested an S7... are you kidding me? The chin on that beyatch is prob the lowest thing around. It wld last 50 feet before the first renter ripped it off.

Good point. I wouldn't recommend an old F car for that reason, but the early 60s Contis are built to Rolls standards and use available, relatively inexpensive parts except for the convertible top. Also, the Ford GT hasn't been a headache...? Different reason but ultimately results in downtime.

 

From what I understand there isn't much performance difference whatsoever do to the added weight and lack of traction, no? Also, theres a 40-50k difference in second hand value.. The SL65 would have to rent at near-Bentley prices while the 55 could probably be rented at ZO6/M5 prices.

Kenny, it is going to be nearly impossible to get an 05 SL65. I actually just called about this. I have a guy in florida who basically had a signed check ready for one. I found 3 '06 SL65s and thats pretty much it. I found one "at a steal" for about 185k. Otherwise I know of 2 black ones that MSRP for about 193-196k. But I can get you a little better deal on any of those 3 cars. Im sure you have driven a 65, but if you havent OMG, its crazy performance. To say its pretty much the same performance as an SL 55 is rubbish

 

What's the difference with MY06 that they're retaining their value so much?

I could NEVER EVER EVER justify 185k+ for a high horsepower SL500. If I'm spending over $125k I'm ponying up for the SLR.

 

There were just so few of them made. If an 05 comes on the market people snatch it up quick. I think its just that they made so few of them. I could see spending the extra 40k for the 65 over the 55, but dont see the benefit of spending the extra 180k+ for an SLR. Not worth it performance wise. The SL65 will def more than keep up with an SLR.

P.S. the 3 cars I quoted you are new, not used. I dont think I have ever seen a used Sl65 from MB for sale. Maybe a few on ebay.

And I correct myself. Checking the MB used database. Tampa seems to have a silver SL65 for only 120k. IMO thats an amazing deal!

 

absolutely right. I would never EVER spend 185k for something that looks exactly like the 90k version to the untrained eye. For 185k im buying something exotic!!!

 

I don't think an SL is a good GDC car. Not bad, but not good. Hardly exotic. They're everywhere! People want to rent an exotic LOOKING car. Only a very few people know of the difference between an SL500 -> SL55 -> SL65.

 

sometimes its not about looks. I spent almost 90k on a car that looks like a 30k a4. To me, i dont give a crap what people think my car looks like. All they usually ever see is the back of it anyways

 

It's just, for LESS, you can buy a Bentley GT (or soon, GTC), which is far superior in nearly every dimension.

Next time I'm bringing the Land Rover Defender there. The SL55 doesn't quite fit in.

 

not exactelty an exotic, but I think its good for business. Its something that can be rented alot more frequently. I think its something someone would rent for a weekend cause they wanted a convertible.

 

Agreed. It's a RELIABLE hardtop convertible that is versatile enough to be daily driven in NYC in all seasons with enough power to blow most any car away. Low key, sleek, beautiful. I've driven pretty much everything extensively and there's a reason why the 55 is on my top 5 of best cars ever made.

If you haven't driven one you're missing out.
