NOPD post Katrina is much different than it was 10 years ago. In fact, Mayor Nagin did a lot during his first term to turn the system around. He is due some credit.

Also due credit are those officers who stayed for Katrina and worked the chaos despite losing their own homes and sometimes their own family members. They didn't do it for the salary, thats for sure...

    Facts from CNBC?

What you just wrote is opinions, numbnuts. CNBC offers a reason for the drop? That, you bumbling idiot, is an OPINION. All you have offered are OPINIONS and opinions from Lyndon LaRouche at that. You have not offered one single fact in all your moronic and sophomoric posts yet.

I have given you the facts, which you have conveniently chosen to ignore.

You have not bothered to look at refining capacity in the US, demand growth from emerging economies, reduced output from Nigeria and Iraq, surplus stocks in heavy sulfer sour crude oil which is unrefinable by most refineries, seasonal demand numbers in the US, after-effects of Katrina, changes in US gasoline standards mandating 10% ethanol content, price curve of crude oil, run-up in other physical commodity markets, contango market structure, weekly API and DOE inventory numbers etc, etc, etc.

Your original proposition is that the NYMEX is being manipulated by a secret cabal to run up oil prices. You have now backpedaled to the point of now arguing that the NYMEX has speculators who are getting out of long positions. Woowee, what a fcuking revelation!!

As I said many, many posts ago., the fundamentals which are driving the price of crude oil are very complex. You on the other hand are a simpleton and the only thing you can fathom is to synthesize a myriad of complex and extensive economic factors into one single, superficial and simpleminded conclusion...it is the bogeymen at the NYMEX!!!!

You are a complete and utter moron. Why don't you go out to the airport with the rest of your Lyndon LaRouche buddies and hand out some leaflets.

...and don't forget your tinfoil hat.

The dollar was appreciating against the Euro for much of 2005, it hit a low of nearly 1.35 in mid-March and was below 1.17 by mid-November. In Euro-terms, crude oil was becoming more expensive during that same period than it was in USD terms.

What you were reading was probably referring to the first few months of 2006 when the dollar was weakening. Crude in Euro terms was largely unchanged during that time period.

Most of the major oil-producing countries, particularly in the middle East, peg their currencies to the dollar, they have no need to alter production because of FX fluctuations. So volatility in the energy markets is largely due to factor other than currency fluctuations.

Right now, crude oil is reacting to several factors:

    1) Slowing economic data globally
    2) End of the driving season, reduced demand for gasoline amd shiftover to heating oil inventory buildups.
    3) Switchover from MTBE additives to RBOB in unleaded gasoline
    4) Seasonal refinery maintainance shutdowns
    5) Reduction in risk premium over Iranian nuclear talks.
    6) Mitigating weather risk premium.
    7) Bearish inventory numbers for several energy products from recent API and DOE reports.
    8) Technical selling on the breach of several critical levels, particularly the 67.50 level on the continuous charts, which is both the 200 day moving average and a double-bottom in early Summer.

All of these are short-term factors. If you look further out the curve, you will see that the crude market is in contango, crude is priced at a higher price further out on the cruve. What this is telling us is that excess crude oil production is still dangerously thin and that the underlying factors driving energy prices in the long-term, i.e. lack of refinery capacity and increased global demand from emerging markets, has not yet been alleviated. Godlman Sachs recently issued a report with a long-term price target of $100 a barrel for these very reasons.

You see, there is a difference between a serious anaysis of relevant fundamentals and the "Bogeyman" theory of the Lyndon LaRouche spouting tinfoil-hatted nutcases like racerX.

Facts CRUDE DOWN 21% as of this morning from its high

    World demand NOT DOWN

Inescapable conclusion supply and demand do not correlate to price set by traders at NYMEX. Is chinese crude demand down because of US refined product mix? You know nothing.

fact 2- CNBC reports what analysts claim as reason for drop

Your factors are reasons for speculators to get out, not anything to do with usage worldwide. Ever hear of heating oil.

TWK you are wrong and a classless AZZ, I hope to meet you on a ride someday soon to see you run your prep school mouth like that in front of me.

USAGE up slightly while price DOWN 20%
FACT- price of crude has little to do with underlying supply and demand
REASON- speculators getting out of the bubble they created at the nymex

show me a 20% drop in any of these to correlate to the price drop, its all speculators leaving the market, any stock, any commodity can be messed with by speculation

Hmmm...TV reporters citing analysts' comments. And you somehow think this is a fact and not an opinion.

No wonder you work the midnight shift at Wendy's drive-through window. You are no more a trader than I am a Bangladeshi refugee.

How exactly are prices "set" by traders???

Last time I checked the exchange consists of buyers and sellers, if someone is buying then someone else is selling. Prices aren't "set", they reflect the consensus opinion of ALL market participants.

I know this is a simple concept, evident to most, but as we are all know well aware, there are those dim few for whom everything is the product of some "unseen" conspiracy.

Maybe it is the space aliens at Roswell who are manipulating the commodities markets? Has anyone looked into this? Anyone?

twk, if say the price of the barrel is $65 (on whatever exchange it's traded on), does that simply mean the bid/ask on that last barrel (or lot of barrels) is that price and not the billions of barrels that are out there? I've seen the name "Lt Sweet Crude" thrown around on those tv shows. Does that also imply that the price is for that particular oil (if it is really a different thing besides name) for that particular lot is given by that price shown? I might be wrong and it's something entirely different. I wouldn't be surprised, lol.

Edit: Also, the crude oil on the exchanges that are traded are just a very small fraction of the total, right? It's just like people wanting to buy a regular stock of the NASDAQ through E-trade except it's a commodity. I can't see how every barrel in the world goes through this at the same exact price at a particular time...

    "Blow me, you tinfoil-hatted lunatic

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You need some serious help, you ****ing idiot.

I am through discussing the markets with someeone as ill-informed and stupid as a ****head like you. I have heard high school students with a better grasp of market fundamentals as you. You have all the sophistication of a comic book character, which is exactly what you are, you Lyndon LaRouche-quoting ****-for-brains.

Anytime you want to meet, my address is right there for you or anyone to see. Bring friends, if you have any. Bring guns too. Lots of them.

And make sure your dental records are available, the police are going to need them to identify you."

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I wouldn't expect such UNBALANCED CRAP from the most juvenile of trolls on the net. To put that stuff in writing when you are supposed to be a responsible businessman with partners, clients, and bosses who expect adult behavior is amazing and incredibly stupid.

At first I thought this guy was just a nerd who over-reacted to everything like his college tirade on CShiener and then his increasingly hostile argument to me, now I believe him to be a DANGEROUS AND UNSTABLE!

I have not and will not deal with this guy outside of this public response. You are now on the ignore list and anymore crap of this nature will get reported to whomever might have an effect on bringing you back to reality.
